Question about Samsung HCL473W 47" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

No Raster, but sound works

I've lost picture, but the sound is still there. The week before, it would come on after a few minutes, fading in overzoomed and unaligned. This would clear up before my eyes like an old TV warming up. Now black screen and all the listening you can stand. Any suggestions?

No, no visuals of any sort now, but everything else functions because I can hear the different sources if I switch inputs. I've got myself a service manual, though it seems geared toward someone with intimate knowledge of samsung products (go figure). Armed with this and your advice I'll dive inside when I get back into town. I guessed it would be something common to the three guns.

Well, I'm back to look at my TV and I can't find the driver you recommend checking, even with the service manual. It leaves out a few things I like to see like a board layout. It does have a flowchart for troubleshooting my specific problem, but uses general terms meant for someone who is familiar with TV servicing.

Sounds like vertical deflection has caused the tubes to go into blanking. Do you still have on screen displays? Try resoldering the vertical output IC. If that doesnt help the vertical output may be defective.

Hi I have A Marshall JCM 2000 TSL122. It starts out having full sound then all of a sudden no sound then after a few seconds, minutes or several minutes sound is back!

I suspect it's your input jack if it stops working immediately and comes back immediatly rather than fading in and out. Give it and any other jacks a good cleaning and see if it helps.

Picture fades to black

Find the vertical IC and check for very small cracks on the solder joints of its pins and resolder (approx. 10 Pins). Also check in the same area for a 1 micro farad at 50 vdc capacitor that goes bad and replace it.

Panasonic PT-47WX49E

The only thing I can think of that would make the picture fade to black is a loose solder joint on the filament supply. Each of the 3 picture tubes has a filament and if the 6.3 volt supply to those filaments is suddenly lost, the picture fades to black as the filaments cool down. An experienced tech can find and correct this for you quite easily.
