Question about Hitachi 53UDX10B 53" Rear Projection Television
On my Hitachi Mo# 53uwx10ba I developed a slight double image on about 25-30% of the left side of the screen the rest of the picture is clear and good. convergence goes through its motions but does not correct problem,Have unplugged unit over night, tried different cables..there are manual controls behind front panel that adjust color and clarity but will not will fix proplem ..Please suggest resolution,
Thank you for your time as it is appreciated.
I am having the same problem and the magic focus function does not fix the problem.
It is a convergence problem.
FEW TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS YOU CAN TRY:
ONE: Check the line cord. Wiggle both ends near the molded part.
TWO: Make sure you have power in the outlet by plugging a lamp into the same exact outlet.
THREE: Do a hard reset; merely unplug the line cord but leave it unplugged for 4 hours before powering up again.
The whacking test is to just bang or smack the set with your hand on the back, side, top, etc., to see if there are loose connections or cold solder joints inside that are acting up. If so, the banging should knock them back to normal and the set should restore. You might have to use some creative banging and some have had to put a book or magazine under one corner to torque the chassis enough to get it to work reliably.
If this does not solve your problem then the only solution to fix your the problem is to get it repaired by a technician
Please don't forget to rate the solution.

Hitachi is famous for throwing the convergence board. This seems like a convergence problem according to your description of the symptoms.
It is NOT a home remedy solution unless you have some eletronic skills. Replacing the convergence board requires some soldering and testing to complete the job.
The board costs about $400 form Hitachi or a wholesale parts house. Usually, the shop will replace it for around $450 plus a house call.

Needs convergence IC's

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.
When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.
