Hello, I have a VR4940 DVD/VCR COMBO. It came with LG 1-4x 4.7gb single sided blank dvd-r. After I use them I didn't burn anything for quite a while. When I started to burn again it was nearly impossible to find 1- 4x blank dvd-r. I found a few and have 5 0r 6 left, but can not find any more. I wrote to the company where I purchase other media and they recommened Taiyo Yuden Value Line DVD-R or Ritek Silver Shiney 8x media. I am leaning towards the Ritek because it says 1-8x . I have used Taiyo CD-R and love the quality of the Taiyo but I can only get them in 100 cake pack or more , which if they don't work , the DVD's I mean, then I'm stuck with them.
Anyway I also downloaded from the site a firmware update for this dvd/vcr combo but have never installed because I'm not sure what they will change. If I install the firmware update will I be able for sure to use 1-8x. And or will I not be able to use the 1-4x I have left. Or will installing the upgrade just mess everything up so bad I won't be able to burn at all.
Upgrading the firmware is always a good idea. Usually the instructions on the site are clear but they may also have a telephone number to ring to ask for the firmware upgrade on a disk.
Upgrades are there to remove the inevitable bugs that exist when a machine is released onto the market. there may be several upgrades during the life of the recorder.

Try Diffferent media's.
Like different manufacturer's ( ummm!! Sony , philips TDK or verbatim etc
If U did this then U'r optical device is faulty

try unplugging the unit for a few minutes..region 2 doesn't work on older dvd players/recorders..the newer ones may handle it...try the computer...and see if that can play it...
I gues that your burner is combo and only burn cd-r not DVD-R. Maybe its only a DVD REader and cannot burn to blank DVD. Try to see the Rom Specification of the DEll for more information.
1.Please cheack weather the DVD meadia is DVD R/W combo drive,
2.Then only the DVD media will be Burn or write tO the Blank dvd media & then check weather the blank cd is a dvd r/w cd.
