Question about Sony KP-51WS510 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Blue spot My Sony has recently began to display a blue spot on the right side of the screen. It is about 17 inches long extending from the bottom right corner up. I have replaced the bulb on this unit in the past but this looks like something new. Any ideas?

When you replaced the bulb did you happen to touch it with your hands? the oil from your skin can cause premature problems with bulbs including burnout or exploding.

The model number KP-51WS510 deosnt use a bulb or lamp. and touching the face of the lamp will not cause color problems in the picture. if your tv is an LCD projection then i would suspect the optical engine as the culprit. to check when you turn the tv off do you still see the blue distortion? if so then you have a bad optical engine.......as long as it is an LCD projection.

If that blue hazy line is there in all inputs and no signal, you have a defective light engine. Contact Sony Customer Support because they extended the light engine warranty on some models.

if you have a Sony LCD projection ..Theres good chance optical block needs replacing .This spot will get bigger and will eventually cover most of screen the longer you use it .needs repair. If there is no warranty on this unit..I would estimate repair around 6- 8 hundred dollars ..

This is a Light Engine problem. Call a good TV Tech and explain the problem. These can be rebuilt for around $450. New ones are $800 to $1200.
