I just bought a new bel 995, and tried to start it up for the first time today. I plugged the cord into the side of the bel, and the other end into the cigarettelighter. Pushed the powerbutton on top, and nothing happens. It's totally dead. Checked if any fuse had gone, but there is nothing wrong with the cigarettelighter in the car, and works with other equipment. Has anybody experienced that their new laser/radar detectors don't power up? Maybe the lighterplug cord is bad, and a direct wire cord helps?

Beltronics is now using a special "high temperature" speaker which resolves issues with speakers blowing due to high ambient temperatures. Contact Beltronics and schedule service for your V940. Not only will Bel replace the speaker with the newer model, but they will also test and calibrate your V940 and install whatever the current firmware is for your V940.
This is most likely caused by a poor connection between the antenna ridge and the local oscillator board. Another possibility is an uncontrolled LO chamber harmonic due to the cold temperatures. Regardless of the cause, your V955 is under warranty and Bel will fix it for free -- as long as you include a photocopy of your sales receipt. Go to Bel's web site (www.beltronics.com), and either call their 800 number or do the online chat in order to get a RMA number.
This means that your RD has failed several attempts to self-calibrate its internal antenna. Like the message says, you must send in your V995 for service. Bel will fix whatever the issue is, and they will install the latest firmware too. Also, be sure to ask Bel to check and see if they need to replace the existing speaker with their new "high temp" speaker. The new speaker resolves potential issues of the original speaker failing due to high heat conditions.
Sometimes they hide the screws, usually under stickers/labels on the unit, remove all labels and if still no screws It's probably just a tight fit, unsnap by prying with flathead screwdriver.
If its still under warrenty Call Beltronics 800-341-2288 I had the same problem and they re-tuned the Detector and updated the firmware my Vector 985 was out of warrenty by 5 months and Bel repaired it for free. Hope this helps
