Question about Mitsubishi WT-42315 42" TV

1 Answer

Mitsybishi WS-65711 We have the same problem (shuts off - before every so often, now the power "clicks" on and immediately turns off) with our TV. What is the DM? Where do I find it on the TV?

The symptoms are dfferent than when the Ic chip was bad the 1st time. The repair guy used a chip #STK 393-110. Is that a cheap, aftermarket chip??? If so, would if fry other chips/resistors/capacitors??? If we replace it, what are the chances the TV will work again?? Could I replace the chip myself? I have soldered pc boards before & have a small soldering iron.

    Thanks in advance

Could the ICs really be responsible for the set not turning on? Would other parts be damaged as well? It did not seem like the issue had anyting to do with temperature, ie: I would wake up in the morning, try to turn it on 10-20 times and eventually it would turn on and run all day with no problem...It would work flawlessly for a week or so and I would have to repeat the process again. There was a definite patern there. Now we get the green light for a second and it goes off! I have called a couple local repairman and they don't want to touch it! The TV is only 5 years old!

I will pull the back/front off and check for a brand on the IC's.

    Thanks for the help

I removed front & rear panel of set, slid out the pcb tray, checked out the IC (there appears to only be 1). I noticed that the heat sink has 4 screws holding it to the pcb, the 2 inside screws closest to the IC were loose & stripped! The heat sink along with the ic moves back & forth with very little force... There is also a wire with a loop terminal that is supposed to be fastened with one of the stripped screws. Anyway, I tightened the screws just before the point where they strip, plugged in the tv, waited for the reset sequence, turned it on and it worked! Is it possible that the guy who replaced th IC did a poor installation job? If so what's my next move? I do not feel confident in re-soldering the IC..

    Thanks again,

Most likely, the convergence "chip" ( IC ) is out again as many

repair shops use lessor quality than the Mfr. ...........OEM or

better is the only way to go !.....................T.

  • Vista Electronics Apr 05, 2008

STK393-110 is a generic part # off the part....price range can be

10 to $30.00 wholesale with less than MFR spec.quality, the

lower the price, the quicker the failure. If the MFR # is on the part

package, they are warranting first quality or better, thus the repair holds up.These kinds of parts run hot & have a high failure rate if

not top shelf quality.......................................ask you servicer

if he used MITS OEM parts or generic.......................T.

  • Vista Electronics Apr 05, 2008

Check soldered-in fuses in power supply since power LED won't stay on............F9A04,F9A05,etc...........................T.

  • Vista Electronics Apr 05, 2008

If it works, don't fix it !...............With those tell-tale signs of poor

workmanship, you will be changing the IC someday........let it be

    for now.......................Terry.

Hey, Girl 1, I have four girls not counting my wife . So, helping you may be difficult. Just kidding!
I would highly suspect that you have fluid on your TV's PCB's (printed circuit boards).
So, at this point that you should call an Authorized Service Center and have them give you an estimate before any repairs are performed.

Mitshubishi WS-73907 won't stay on

I suspect you may have a short in the horizontal deflection circuits or High Voltage transformer. If the set had a "great" picture, it may be worth fixing providing you aren't planning to upgrade to a HDTV anytime soon, otherwise I would use this excuse to start looking for a new set. Worst case I can envision with this set would be one of the picture tubes having a Short, keeping the set from turning on. That would make it unreparable.

Your TV is probably shutting down due to excessive current draw. Replace the filter capacitor in the power supply and cross your fingers. This will be a large, tall, and round shaped object near the location where your power cord goes into the TV. It has two pins and one is positive and other is negative. Do not get them crosses when installing new part. keever

TV won' turn on

Solder, solder, solder! Shut down circuits protect crts to avoid permanent damage. If any of the deflection circuits are defective, or intermittent, shut down occurs. I have not only seen bad solder on deflection circuits, especially vertical, but also intermittent connections on the yokes themselves. I've also seen shorted convergence ics cause shut down. Don't forget solder connections in the power supply.
