Question about Goodman GMS80904BNA Open Flame Mid-Size Heater

1 Answer

Timing off? My ignitor lights (glows), but as soon as the gas kicks on the ignitor goes out and it doesn't light the gas. It's like the timing is off. What's that all about?

I put a new gas valve on and there doesn't seem to be any obstruction but i still get no gas delivery. The blower runs and the ignitor lights but it never turns on. Also my furnace was under water, my basement flooded but all parts have been replaced. Is there something inside that could have gotten damaged

It sounds like you are not getting gas out the of the pilot assembly. If you take the 1/4 gas line off of the gas valve and try to blow through it. If you can't then the orifice is plugged. If you can blow throw it then i would say that the gas valve is bad.do you have propane or natural gas. If propane then i would say pilot orifice is plugged.

check for gas at pilot tube first . if there and pilot not lighting then pilot line or orifice is clogged. if pilot is lighting check for 24v to main gas valve terminals. if have voltage either you have a bad gas valve or carry over tube on rack is clogged . if older unit clean carry over tube reinstall and check for voltage and if lights if not then gas valve is bad

if it does not light the ignitor will not glow or not very much , if it lights and goes out then flame rod needs cleaning it may have a white powder on it needs to be brushed off with a small brush.

I have a 4 year old Goodman heater model GMS81155CNA that we just replaced the blower motor on, fortunately it was under warranty until April. Now it keeps trying to cycle 2 or 3 times before the burners...

i would start by checking the flame sensor mounted in the same area as the ignitor or glow stick as you called it... the flame sensor is a metal rod mounted in the direct path of the flame once lighted... it senses the flame and sends signal back to control board to keep gas valve opened and continue the operation.... if the flame sensor is dirty or faulty will start to shut system down premature... the pressure switch could be a problem as well but normally if it goes bad it will fail as soon as unit fires and continue to fail due to a bad diaphram in switch... will mimic a bad flame sensor as well unit will fire but will within seconds shut back down.... the ignitor has to be hot enough to light when gas enters chamber and can be weak but if it works sometimes then i would say it is ok....the flame sensor can be pulled and gently cleaned with light grit sand paper dont over due it but clean it up a little and try it... again it is located next to hot surface ignitor( glow stick) usually has quarter inch hex head screw holding it in place... positional to get out but will come out....

I have a Goodman gas furnance. The furmance kicks on the glow rod lights and then the furnance shuts down after about 60 seconds it goes through the same cycle. The burners never come on. What's wrong?

Let's trouble shoot a few possibilities:

Can you confirm that your gas pressure/ supply is correct-- by lighting all of the range top burners at the same time-- Do they all light quickly, and burn to full height, without much of any yellowing at the flame tips? That should indicate you have god gas pressure and supply.

Now-- in the Oven itself-
When you light the BROIL burner-- does it's glow ignitor light up, and does that burner light off OK?

If it is only the main oven burner that is not lighting, are you able to remove the cover plate that covers it, and watch it light off? -- Any clues on whether or not the gas valve even open?

If NO gas flow, likely you need a new Main Oven Gas Valve-- Probably need to call your Gas Appliance service person.

Let us know if this helped

Draft fan comes on glow plug lights a click is heard but gas valve seems not to open glow goes out then lights again with ignition.

It sounds to me like your gas valve is bad. If you can get induced draft motor to come on then Hot surface ignitor to come on the next step should be lighting burner. I would check to verify that you have fuel to unit and if you do I would reccomend you get a new gas valve. Hope this helps. Thanks

I have a Lenox furnace. Before this igniter kicks off, there is a loud noise comes from furnace. Where is that noise from? Thanks.

This is what we call a "delayed ignition",(gas is not being ignited right away), gas builds up in the chamber and then lights causing a boom. The cause of this problem could be from having dirty burners or ignitor not position to ignite the gas right away or your ignitor may not being glowing enough to ignite the gas being released, check all, Good luck.

Goodman gmnt060 3b doesn't light

check for 24vac between wires on gas valve about 5-10 seconds after ignitor starts to glow. If ignitor does not glow, check for 120 vac to ignitor after inducer goes on.
First...sequence of operation..power to W, inducer motor gets 120v and starts, 10-15 seconds later, ignitor gets 120v and glows, 5-10 seconds, gas valve gets 24v and opens, after 3-4 seconds the flame sensor approves flame and unit stays on. If this is not happening, it has to be in this sequence. Which ever is not happening and you do have voltage to that component, that component is bad. If you are getting a error code on board after it tries to light, pay attention to the code. if a 1 lock out code, that just means it tried 3 times and did not recognize a flame.
