I am very famillar with that chassis that has the gem star 4 module which basically controls the set powering up. here's the voltage requirements and proceedure for testing the module.

    1. With AC power applied to the set.

    2. Check BR104-14 for +5.2VE

    3. Voltage incorrect or missing, troubleshoot STBY power supply

    4. Check BR103-10 and 12 (Clock & Data) for +5.0Vdc and 5Vp-p signal.

    5. Signal present all the time troubleshoot main chassis and IR02.

    6. Check BR104-4, 6, 8, and 10 for proper DC levels. Incorrect DC levels disconnect

    BR202 and recheck.

    7. Correct DC levels with BR202 disconnected troubleshoot keyboard.

    8. Check for signal at BR104-12 and 13 when power button is pressed.

    9. Clock and Data signal present when power is pressed troubleshoot the chassis.

    10.Not present replace Gemstar module.

A power surge zapped my TV, I turned it back on, it tried to bring up the picture but shut off again. A green light keeps blinking.

if a power surge shut down the unit than a circuit, capacitor or fuse is blown and or burnt and you wont smell that most of the time and since it does have power fuse wasnt blown so a circuit -diode-capacitor is fried somewhere problem is common for an electricial damaged tv but to diagnose an electronic tech would need to tear it apart

Can,t get it to turn on.

Does the red light come on? does it go green but no picture? Here are few possible solutions:

If you have no red light and you have a Megmeet MLT386 power supply, check these parts:

1) Swollen caps on the secondary circuit.
2) Blown fuse F1 (5A/250V) this is caused by a shorted FET at QA1 (20N60), you may also find that SMT cap CX23 is burned up (.001uf) which is in parallel with diode DA2 which may be damaged/shorted, replace these components.

If the power LED goes from red to green when powered up but no picture, then it might be lost +24VDC from the power supply:

3)Check fuse F2 (3.15A/250V, I put a 5A in), if it is blown, replace FET at QA2A (9N50C), replace QA2 as well (9N50C). Check SMT resistors at R233,R234,R235,R236 (.47 ohm). If open, replace with .1 ohm 1W or 2W resistor (easier to source). Also replace SMT transistor QF1 (2X4 or 2N4401 NPN transistor). And replace diodes at DS2 and DS1 (HER207), DS2 was shorted, DS1 was ok but I replaced it anyway.

I dont know as much about the Megmeet MLT169A, but it has similar problems and similar components.

4) I had to replace all of the capacitors in the secondary circuit (there are six in a 3x3 row marked EC9 (1000uf35V),EC10(1000uf35V),EC14(470uf35V) and EC18,EC19,EC20 (all 1000uf35V).

Red standby light flashing no picture or sound

the power supply is faulty, check the following

power trasistor
rectifier diodes
zener diodes
fusable resistors ( less than 20ohms)
and your set will work again

The green light comes on then turns to yellow.

if you look at the capacitors on the boards you will find several of them that are domed or blown, these are the most likely cause of the problem. you can find replacements for any capacitor online at electronics supply stores, like radio shack but don't try them they don't supply enough different types. you can also find examples of blown capacitors by doing a search for "blown capacitor image" on any web search. unsoldering these bad caps and replacing them with identical values like 220uf (microfarradys) and say 25 v(volts). these caps have a + side and a - side the caps are marked and so is the board. hope this helps.

Loud pop and picture is no longer available.....

blown resistor (42ohm) replaced this and it imediately blew it clearly shows that there is a short circuit in your tv. if you are a tech person please proceed as follows. 1 isolate power supply from hor.output section. 2 now check power supply section.i.e. switching tran., cap..diode etc. 3 if it becomes ok check power supply output. 4 if output is ok then check hor. output section.i.e. h.out tr.,cap& diode in eht winding. 5 check print near eht. 6 at finally eht. 7 see every thing is normal now. now reconnect power to hor.section. put on tv. good luck.
