Question about Canon GL2 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

LCD screen is dark with distorted images

Please help! I've looked through the GL2 manual and cannot find a way to reset the defaults. Can you help? The LCD screen is VERY dark -can hardly see the shot and the images are purple (almost as if an effect has been applied).

Is there a way to get it back to a regular setting again? The camcorder is only 3 months old. Please advise! I appreciate it!

my picture is also very dark and looks like some sort of pixelation, hue effect has been added. Im pretty sure a ccd is broke or pixles are broke. not sure how much a repair for this would cost

This sounds like the back light has failed. Given that this is only a few months old, I would bring it back for an examination +/or exchange.

As you suspect, it might be of T'Con board fault. Check all the flat cables connected to T'Con to panel should be checked first for any loose contacts. Re-seat them once. If you wish to know more, check this site. It has illustrations of screen shots, for Samsung LCD TVs, with a faulty T'Con board. Can compare these images with your TVs.

Look for loose contacts of RC jacks, cables. Since same problems are there with other input device, there could be board problems. Better to refer it to a qualified service technician.

If these are single pixels on the LCD screen, they are normal. From pg. 8 of the user's guide:

"The LCD monitor is manufactured using extremely high-precision technology so over 99.99% of the pixels are operational for effective use. However, there may be some tiny black points and/or bright points (white, red, blue or green in color) that constantly appear on the LCD monitor. These points are normal in the manufacturing process and do not affect the images in any way. "

This may also be helpful.

"images may trail across the LCD monitor in a cold location. This is not a malfunction. When turning on the camera in a cold location, the LCD monitor may become temporarily dark. "

Image quality

Hello there,
If you are correctly metering the exposure of your photos, and you suspect it may be the camera, try resetting the camera to its default settings using the menu. Clearing all the custom functions as well can sometimes help. I have seen some cameras get "stuck" into a weird shooting mode. Also, don't always trust your LCD. It is only there for reference, but is almost never a true representation of what you're going to get.
Hope this helps!

An adapter tube has to flare out at the end or it will cut the corners off at the wide angle setting. Telephoto should be ok though.
