The solution offered below seems to work up to the keypad entry of the name, it does not allow for text entry!?  Am I missing something?

I got it to work before, but now I can't get it to type letters in the name change place, it only will allow numbers?

The fix is everything that mmxengmail said, but he left out an important step:

Feature # *
Hit # (8) times
Hit show
Enter 04-05-101to156 (101~156 is whatever extension number you are trying to change)
PRESS SAVE (missing step)
Press chg
Use the keypad to change the name pressing # after each letter
When you are done entering the name make sure you press # after the last letter or it won't show
pick up and hang up the handset

god what a headache... i'm glad I finally figured that out.

We have a KX-TD816 system and I have a KX-T7431 phone. We have no operator so whoever picks up transfers. No one can transfer to me anymore. One other thing all the phones the FWD/DND button blink slowly....

So what happens when they press TRANSFER and dial your extension? What happens when you call someone with a display phone and your extension comes up on the display?

The FWD/DND button shows that you have a FWD or DND condition set on your phone. Try pressing it one or 2 times and see if the display says FWD to xxxx. Now, if it is cleared, from the intercom dial 7104 (busy) or 7105 (no answer) 165 # That sets the CF on your phone.

If the others have lost your DSS button on their busy lamp fields, and truly nobody can "transfer" calls to you, you can reprogram those with PROGRAM 99 (don't pick up the handset) press the button assigned to your extension and dialing 1 + your extension and STORE.

Name Display

The voicemail name and the phone system name come from two different places. Your system manager should be able to reprogram the phone system to change names.

press Feature 0, 0. on the extension you want to program. Press the "left" Intercom button and enter the name you want it to be

the letter "F" would be 3,3 (the letter F is on the # 3 key and it is the 3rd letter).
