Most likely when removing a copy someone hit the scan lock on the front of the machine.
Look on the front , bottom side of the scanner where the paper comes out. You will see a latch that is used for shipping the machine that is more than likely locked.
Thats what causes an L1 90 percent of the time. Just slide it to the unlocked position or take a small screw driver and remove it and throw it away. You can put a piece of tape over the opening to keep dust and moisture out
L1 IS USUALLY TO DO WITH THE SCANNER POSITION CHECK THAT THE SCANNER LOCK SWITCH HAS NOT ACCIDENTLY MOVED CAUSING A LOCK YOU CAN CHECK THIS BY LIFTING THE LID AND TURN THE MACHINE ON AND OFF IF THE SCANNER IS FREE YOUN WILL SEE IT MOVE TO THE HOME POSITION.
When [L1-00] appears, the scan head
locking switch is locked. Turn off the
power, release the scan head locking
switch, and turn the power back on.
If this don't work, turn off the power
and wait 10 seconds to reset.
You can hold down the start key when the F1 is displayed it will show a sub code. The service manual for that model shows only one F1 code which is an F1-06. That is a shifter motor trouble. That is the section after the exit that offsets the copies.
You can reset the code with the instructions below. If the error recurrs then chech the exit section shidter for proper movement. You may require an on site technician to remedy this issue.
To reset the error code:
Hit <clear> <interrupt> <0> <interrupt>
