Hello Mitchiko

This error message is often the result of corruption on your hard disk. Quite likely including the MBR.

This could indicate your hard disk is failing or just that there was a glitch in your system that caused your MBR to be over-written or corrupted. In any event, w/ an error like this, you're going to need to ...
(01) Test your hard disk to make sure it's OK
(02) Attempt to restore your MBR

There are some great (free) MBR tools HERE.

There's a nice article HERE on "How to Repair your MBR". The author does a nice job of explaining what the MBR is and how to repair it.

Please, let us know if this response was helpful for you or, of course, if you have more questions, etc. on this topic.

Thank you
BJ

When you say you have "tried every disk", do you mean that you are getting the same error w/ different hard disks - not just one hard disk?

In that event, please, check your cabling as suggested by pagebor. Make sure that the cable is "seated" (plugged in) properly at both the hard disk and at the IDE controller on the motherboard.

Shine a flash light directly onto the IDE controller connector on the motherboard and make sure there aren't any bent or missing pins. If there is a missing connector pin(s), look at that end of the cable and see if there is a pin(s) broke off inside one or more of its sockets.

Do the same at the the other end of the cable and at the hard disks' connectors as well.

Dear mitchiko
did you tried by changing the cables?if the problem still persists than it might be a problem with your motherboard.Contact your vendor then.

When a compaq armada m700 laptop is showing non-system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready

this usually happens when the computer is trying to boot from a disk that isn't a valid boot disk.

if you have a floppy drive plugged into the multibay and a floppy in the drive, try removing the floppy.
if there is no floppy involved, try to boot from your system recovery disks, as it's likely that the boot record on the hard drive will need repaired. your system recovery disks should walk you through the process.
