Question about Compaq Keyboard

Compaq Keyboard Problem

Dear Sir,

My Compaq USB keyboard is not recognised by my desktop PC on switch on, and the keyboard LED also does not glow. But if I take out the keyboard connector and plug it back to the socket in power on condition, it starts working, with the message 'new hardware detected...etc.' appearing on the screen. My OS is Windows XP.
Kindly let me know how to fix this problem.

Hello Ganguly

You likely need to enable legacy (older technology) USB devices in your desktop computers' BIOS.

How to enter the BIOS of your particular computer will depend upon its motherboard and BIOS.

HERE is a link to a site w/ a listing of BIOS manufacturers and how to enter their BIOS.

You can identify your motherboard and BIOS by running the free BELARC ADVISOR PC audit utility found HERE.

The BIOS is entered normally during POST (right after powering on or restarting the computer - while the screen background is still black).

It is during this period that you must strike the key or key combination required to enter the BIOS.

If you need assistance w/ this, please, run the BELARC ADVISOR PC audit utility and let us know what motherboard & BIOS is installed on your computer. Or, if yours is one made by a major manufacturer (Gateway, Dell, IBM, etc.), let us know the manufacturer, model, and serial number or service tag of the computer. W/ that information we'll likely be able to find out how to enter your computer's BIOS.

Please, let us know if this response was helpful for your or, of course, if you have more questions, etc on this topic.

Thank you
BJ

How do i get my new keyboard to work?

You didn't specify what type of keyboard it is or a model number, but still, here goes:
If it's a wireless keyboard then make sure you've inserted working batteries from the back side of the keyboard, turned any on/off switch to "on" position (if there is one) and connected the wireless receiver (usually USB type) to you PC. It might take a while for your system to recognise your new hardware device and install drivers for it.
If it's a wired keyboard, then find a socket at the back of your PC that matches the connector on the keyboard's wire and plug it in. If it's the old PS type connector, then make sure the colour codes of the connector and the socket match and reboot your PC. If it's any other connector type you don't have to colour match them, just find a socket to which the connector fits exactly and reboot your PC.
Hope this helps ;)

Replace batteries in keyboard and re-sync the devices

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>- --> Synching Mouse or Keyboard with Wireless Optical Desktop trnsp.gif Question My mouse or keyboard doesn't work with my Wireless Optical Desktop (Model Number: 64373). What's wrong and how do I fix this problem? trnsp.gif Answer Your mouse or keyboard has lost its sychronization with the Wireless Optical Desktop, which can occur after changing the batteries, for example.

To synchronize your wireless device with its receiver:
  1. Move the device within three (3) feet of the receiver.
  2. Press the button on the receiver.
If the receiver has an LED, the light blinks.
  3. Within ten (10) seconds, press the button on the underside of your wireless device.
If the receiver has an LED, the light glows solidly when synchronization is successful.
Early production units of some wireless devices may require repeating the above instructions two or three times.

Timing, distance, and objects impeding the wireless signal may influence your success. While usually unnecessary, some customers have reported better results by:
  • Holding the wireless device very close, within three (3) inches of the receiver.
  • Entirely ignoring the receiver's light.
  • Simultaneously holding the buttons on both the receiver and the device for from ten (10) to twenty (20) seconds.

Unable to connect Logitech cordless keyboard

Of course you know to press the connection button on the receiver then on the keyboard. Since setPoint is recognizing the connection I wonder do the multimedia and function keys work? Do you have the the USB receiver for the KB/Mouse plugged into a hub or KVM switch? If so plug it directly into the back of the PC. See this KB http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=9247
