If you did a fresh install of windows then your sound drivers will get deleted. you need to find out the board model, brnad and download the files from the manufacturers website. but if you have the support CD, it normally runs autosetup when you insert the disk.

but if you are doing the repair option for windows (if using win XP), your sound driver will still be there and and willg et installed after reinstalling under repair option.

Dear Loreerupe,

This sounds like a corrupted software file. Please use your installation disk and reinstall the sound driver file. This will overwrite the corrupted files and upon the machine rebooting you will have gained sound operation again.

Unfortunately you dont state the model/maker/windows operating system and cannot help any further with instructions/manuals/driver files.

I hope you can fix this,
Regards

How to troubleshoot sound cracking up windows xp?

Since you are using Windows xp don't see any problems with driver for the sound card, it is probably the speakers. have you try ear phones?
if it is still the same then the sound controller is defective. There is also the possibility that there is some corruption in the OS or virus infection.
If you can borrow or buy with intention to return a USB sound card that will give you some solution. I could give you more scenarios but i think this will give you an idea on what to do next.

Hi,

If you want to clean up your pc of viruses, Trend Micro's free online virus scanner 'Housecall' is a good way to do it.

If you want to find the serial number of your Windows installation so you can reinstall, download the 'Magic Jellybean Keyfinder' - it works well.

Well, my ASUS X71SL-B2 17-Inch Laptop is running very slow, and I find myself unable to play any games AT ALL due to massive amounts of lagg. Now, this has been going on for a while, and its been bugging...

What it sounds like is that you may have a virus. Computers will tend to slow down after being infected with a virus. Not knowing what software you have installed you may want to try running anti-virus software. There are several available these programs can detect viruses and clean your computer. There are also several online programs available that will also clean and repair your computer if it is infected. You may first want to try some basic system maintance for instance,
In windows XP under system tools "Disk Clean up" and then run "Disk Defragment" both of these should be done on a regular intervals.

I hope this helps

Help, a friend got some virus on her machine. I cleaned off the virus but now we get the blue screen. She did not get OS disks with her computer. She is running MS XP Home Ed. SP2. I don't know what to...

Find any "generic" Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM disk.
Use that disk, and the 25-character product-key on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop.
Then, access ACER's web-site, and download the specific device-drivers that are found
on the ACER-customized Windows disk (which you don't have).

Or, contact ACER, and pay $20 to $40 to purchase a replacement "System Recovery" set of disks.

Can'tdouble click on my C drive to open

It sounds like some of your system files are no longer in tact. First off I would find out what caused this problem.
To start with you need to run a full ant-virus scan on your computer with whichever anti-virus software you use. If your software finds issues that you cannot fix, then you need to take in your computer to a professional ASAP to have the infection removed (if you are very comfortable with this procedure you can do this your self).
Once you have ensured that all viral infections are removed (keep in mind there is a possibility that you never had an infection), move on to repairing the issue.
I will assume you have windows XP as your laptop ships with, if not please respond and I'll give you different directions.
Run a check disk on your computer. Open "My Computer" then right-click on your C drive and click on "Properties". This will open up a new window, click on the "Tools" tab and then click the "Check Now" button under the Error-checking section. This opens a new window labeled "Check Disk Local Disk" check both of the boxes in this window instructing the program to automatically fix system errors and to scan for and recover bad sectors, then click the "Start" button. This will likely bring up a new prompt saying that this operation can't be performed while the drive is mounted, and asks if it can run at the boot of your computer. Pres the "Yes" button, and then restart your computer.
Check Disk will run automatically as your computer boots, and will repair all of the problems with your system files.
You will no longer receive the 'media.exe' error.
please rate my solution

I am unable to run any program on my pc. It is infected with a virus and anytime i start the pc the virus covers the whole screen within minutes and disable all programs

Try downloading Malwarebytes (malwarebytes.org) and run it. If you can't run it on that computer, get a recovery CD (such as the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows) and use that to try and recover.

My computer wont boot up

If your computer was infected then it is still infected unless you have used an anti virus program to remove the infection. After removing the virus you then can install xp. Hope this helps.

Instantaneous shutdown with no warnings!

Software issue or error
Errors generated by software programs can cause a computer to reboot unexpectedly or without warning. If you are running Windows XP see the below section "For Windows XP users" before continuing. If you are not running Windows XP or following the below steps still cause your computer to reboot without warning. Boot your computer into Safe Mode, and let the computer run in Safe Mode.

If the computer is still rebooting in Safe Mode the issue is likely not software related but something else, skip to the next section. If the computer is not rebooting in Safe Mode it is likely you have software related issue. We would recommend you run through the basic troubleshooting section for your operating system.
For Windows XP users
Windows XP is designed to automatically reboot each time an error occurs such as a BSoD. Although this may be nice for errors that do not occur often, users who have a re-occurring error may wish to identify the error to troubleshoot it. Below are the steps on how this feature can be disabled and enabled in Windows XP.
From the desktop right-click on My Computer.
Click the Properties option.
In the System Properties window click the Advanced tab.
In Advanced click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery.
In the Startup and Recovery window uncheck the Automatically restart check box.
Click Ok.
Now if the computer generates and error it should not automatically restart and enable you to display any errors your computer may be experiencing.
Hardware issue or error
Any failing hardware component in your computer could cause your computer to unexpectedly generate an error and/or reboot without warning. If you have recently attempted to add a new hardware device, remove that device to make sure it is not causing your issues.
Make sure you are not encountering any hardware conflicts by viewing Device Manager for errors.

New drivers can also cause this issue, if you have recently performed any hardware driver updates you may wish to try an earlier version of the drivers.

If you have updated drivers and removed any hardware that could be causing this issue and continue to experience random reboots, it's possible that the memory is bad in the computer.

Finally, hardware devices that are not installed properly in the computer can also cause random reboots. Make sure all the cables and expansion cards are connected properly to the computer. The best way to determine this is to disconnect and reconnect all cables and expansion cards.
Computer virus
Computer viruses such as the blaster virus are written to reboot your computer without warning. Usually these viruses will make the computer reboot ever 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes after the computer has booted.
If you believe your computer may be infected with a virus or are uncertain if your computer is infected with a virus make sure your virus scanner definitions are up to date.

Heat related issue
Many computer today are designed to turn off or automatically reboot if the computer, processor, or other device in your computer gets to hot. If you have heard any abnormal noises coming from your computer recently such as a high squealing this could indicate a fan may be failing in your computer.
You can first start by verifying the fan on the power supply is working by examining the back of the computer and seeing if the fan is moving and moving smoothly. For all other fans in the computer you will need to either open the computer and make sure the fan are working (processor fan and case fan) and/or if your BIOS monitors the RPM of the fans enter BIOS and make sure the BIOS does not report any errors.
Users may also be able to determine how hot their computer is by onboard thermal sensors, if your computer comes equipped with these sensors make sure your CPU is not running to hot.
Issue with operating system
If after following each of the above recommendations your computer still continues to reboot it is likely that you are experiencing a Microsoft Windows operating system related issue that cannot be explained. To help make sure this is the case please try the below steps.
Reboot the computer and enter CMOS setup as the computer is booting.
After you have loaded the computer in CMOS setup let the computer sit.
If the computer does not reboot while letting the computer sit in CMOS it is likely that you are in fact experiencing an issue with Microsoft Windows and it is recommend that if you have followed all of the above recommendations that you reinstall your version of Microsoft Windows.
