Sony Cybershot with lens not opening/closing

I have a sony sybershot DSC-W30 and it was dropped resulting in the lens being bent slightly stopping it from opening and closing properly.

Any suggestions as to how I can fix this? Or is it lost

Hi there, I have the same issue. Dropped while it was open and bent the barrel. Opened and closed a few times initially but now the camera won't turn on at all. Can this be fixed or should we invest in something new??

SOURCE: when turning on power lcd says acess ,lens opens

I had the same problem. Your focus is stuck.
Try to free the focus from whatever (sand, dust, etc.) by hitting the camera. Start gentle, and if it doesn't work, hit it hard...the DSC-W30 is very rugged , that was my experience!
Greetings from Germany and good luck!

OK you are probably going to think I am loony giving you this advise But No I am completely sane!

Get a can of compressed air OR acces to a compressor at your local garage Get them to fit the triggered air blower tool to it.

Blow around the lens in all the extension joins the firmly slap it in the palm of you hand with the side of the camera making contact with you palm. Do the procedure two or 3 times and inbetween the slaps turn it on to activate the lens mechanism. I have now fixed about 80 of these cameras with this method. I obtained the fix from Sony who charge $90 to do exactly the same. Keep at it as it will eventually work. One tip, make sure the battery is charged before you do this.

SOURCE: Sony Cybershot Lens Stuck inside!!!

I have the exact same problem with my Cyber-shot; the lens is stuck inside. After trying everything to loosen it (like wedging a razor knife between the sections, even dropping it or banging it against a book, etc) non of which I recommend, I finally got it open by PUSHING on the black telescoping section surrounding the lens itself. For some reason, this worked!

SOURCE: My Sony Cybershot DSC-W120 Super steady shot Camera won't turn on

I have the same problem, but when I remove the MS Pro Duo card (1GB) from the camera it works fine again. The memory card works fine in a pc memory card reader. Is there a problem with the Sony camera built-in card reader?

The lens for my sony cybershot dsc-w310 digitial camera won't open completely.

It may have had an impact or a bit of grit/dirt may have lodged in it, try a tiny drop of sewing machine oil on a Q-tip and gently lube the lens protector

Make sure the battery is strong and not failing you and that the extending lens cover parts are clean. You may have gotten something in there.

DSC P52 cybershot camera

I cannot provide the answer but i think it may have something to do with the shutter mechanism. When you dropped it, something inside the mechanism may have bent or stopped. Don't take the camera apart yourself, take it to a specialist such as an electronics store. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
