Question about Hobart A200 Stand Mixer

1 Answer

Mixer has just stopped

Model A200T. Mixer has just stopped working. The guard that goes in front of the mixer bowl does have a plastic piece that has been broken off. Could this be a safety switch of some kind? The mixer drive rotates so gears are not jammed.

On the newer A200s, there is a reed switch behind the solid portion of the bowl gaurd. On the cage portion there is a magnet embedded in a plastic holder. Without it, the mixer won't run.

how do you access this switch to wire around it. i dont use a bowl on my mixer and dont want to spend 400 bucks for a guard that i wont use at all, thanks so much!!!

Older mixers have a piece wich loks like a bolt coming out that make contact with a metal tab on the guard. You can by pass the safety switches by taking the entire top of the mixer off and wiring the grounds together. This is unadvisable but easily accomplished.

Take the 2 bolts on the front of the mixer head out as well as teh 2 large screws from the rear of the mixer head. There are 2 safety switches in this area. One for the mixer guard and one for the pedestal that makes contact when the bowl is in place. These can actually both be bypassed by wiring all 3 black wires together. This is very in-advisable though, especially if it will be used by multiple users

What is the difference between a H800 and L800 mixer

I have used the H600. Nice piece of kitchen kit for hard use.

Model H600 is a heavy-duty 60-quart mixer which features a two-horsepower motor, a timer and a #12
Attachment Hub as standard equipment. With the use of bowl adapters and special agitators, 30- or 40-
quart bowls may be used on the H600.

Model L800 is a medium-duty 80-quart mixer designed primarily for use in general kitchen applications.
This mixer features a timer and #12 Attachment Hub as standard equipment and is powered by a
two-horsepower motor. With the use of bowl adapters and special agitators, 30-, 40- or 60- quart bowls
may be used on the L800.

A Bowl Guard is standard equipment on all H600 and L800 models.

A programmable timer controller is optional on H600 and L800 models.

These mixers can be ordered with a stainless steel finish.
A variety of attachments and accessories are available for all mixers. These are described in a separate Use and Applications Handbook, which is furnished with each mixer.

Here is your manual.

Hi, I have a used Hobart A200T and the bowl yoke piece moves up and down slightly, even under a light load. It makes an annoying clanking noise. It's as if a spring somewhere is looser than it should be....

You may be correct about a loose spring. Check this:

Carefully lay the mixer on its back side to access the bottom of the mixer. Remove the cover screen covering the opening in the bottom of the mixer. Using an extension and appropriate socket, be sure the nut of the bowl lift rod is snug, slightly compressing the spring of the bowl lift rod.

My h 600 will only run when i hold the start button as soon as i let go it stops

If it has a bowl guard on it then the problem could be either the bowl height switch or the side switch on the contactor. If it does not have a bowl guard then the side switch on the contactor is the problem. If it has a bowl guard, make sure the bowl lift is operating the bowl height switch. The bowl must be all the way up to operate the bowl height switch.

Hobart A200T General Info / Back cover plate gasket

I'm a service tech for hobart,I'll type your serial number into our database and see what it brings up.The changes that have been made---older units use a mechanical start switch on the motor, the new units use an electronic start switch.the old units center shaft and gears have changed.the older units dont have bowl guards and the new units do.(this is a cage that goes around the bowl). The gasket that your talking about is just that--a thin paper. The paper wears and you get that symptom you describe and its normal.I'll get back to you.
