Re: cd rom does not close
Before you do that - clean your laptop keyboard (soft makeup brush and canned air), if you are using an external keyboard clean it extremely well also - you might have a key stuck. (usally the Fn key).

This error is commonly seen in Compaq laptops.
Take out the battery, start the laptop with the adapter only and see if that error message pops up again and if not then it might be your battery.Usually battery life is 3yrs.
Put the battery back again and see if the message pops up again.
Try the battery on a different laptop.
It could be the Voltage Converter Board...see service manual for the same or call Compaq service centre.
I believe you hit F10 key to enter bios. Go to the advanced menu and select boot options. You can select in there what order the computer tries to boot from different options. You need to select boot from CD and put it in sequence before the hard drive. Most bios versions well give you a first, second, third boot device and so on. Set first device to CD rom, second to Hard drive 0, third to none unless you use a floppy drive to boot from (rare).
It is the HD thats is the cause of you blue screen of death. To fix this problem you must run a scan disk in windows and let it repair the problem. If you cant repair it through windows you will have to use your windows disk. Boot Pc up with windows disk in CD Rom and fit F-12 select boot to dvd or cd rom option. Select repair windows, then you should get a black screen with comand line like a DOS screen. Type in C:/Fixdisk.
