What type and size memory card? The A620 works with MMC and SD cards, 2GB or smaller. It will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). The A620 uses MMC and SD cards. SD cards max out at 2GB in size. Larger cards are actually SDHC or SDXC cards and will not work in the A620.

This isn't something you can fix yourself, and a professional repair will probably not be an economic proposition unless you can get it done under warranty.

However, if the camera is still able to take pictures, you can do without the USB cable (I assume this is the cable you mean) and transfer your pictures to the computer by taking the memory card out of the camera and putting it in a card reader attached to the computer. Many people find that more convenient anyway. You can't get the pics from the camera's internal memory that way though.

Some cameras cannot handle over 2GB memory cards. If it works fine with 2GB card - stick to that. If some other A620 you know operates with 4GB card, take yours to repairs.

There is no internal memory on this camera, other than a buffer which is only used while taking pictures and immediately transferring them to a memory card. If there is no memory card installed, the camera cannot 'save' any pictures.
