I have the same problem. I have had the TV for about 1 1/2 years. It flickers like a strobe light for over a minute each time it powers on. It takes an increasingly long time to stop flickering each time. The Olevia company has not been able to help at all with the problem.

So, I don't understand either - can you be more specific with the solution? Where exactly is the output converter and the transistor? Is it safe to touch that stuff?

Just solved this problem for a customer.
Problem found to be a cold solder joint output transistors to inverters.
Remove then resolder cold solder joints. then your good to go. JR,

My coby flatscreen comes on and works but strobes flashing light but works good just with strobing light ! whats going on?

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

Lg plasma tv screen flickerin

HelloThe problem shows the refresh rate. Quite propably that you are seeing the much slower beat or heterodyne. Often caused by artificial ambient lighting like florescent tubes or faulty dimmers on halogen's etc causing the beat with plasma screens.

Otherwise you need to check power supply

FLICKERING BACK LIGHT

Sounds like you have an LCD tv with backlight problems. Check power board for domed capacitors and replace them. next check connections on the inverter boards. they are on the sides or just one side. Becareful there is high voltage output from these boards. If the cable from inverter board is not good to the screen you can get a strobing. the inverter boards may need replaced. or cales to screen may be bad. The panel also could be bad.

Flickerin Screen

Hi,

To my understanding, almost all power supply (SMPS) for use of such devices would be self-regulated. There is no way for the voltage to go up, perhaps down (a little) but never up. Based on this, it would be safe to assume that it is indeed the power supply. If the supply voltage becomes unregulated (and shoots up), the normal tendency of the electronics it supplies to would be to clamp down and auto protect/shutdown. Some are more sensitive than others and in all probability, the inverters are just doing that.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Olevia 26" Flat Screen

I too had a similar problem with my 26" Olevia LCD TV, except it would flicker at different frequencies like a strobe light.  The flicker would even increase in speed, giving the visual illusion that the TV was about to blow up.  After several power-on, power-off, unplug, repeat, I was about to give up and think about looking for another TV. I saw your posts here and both of you "hit" the TV and it seemed to fix it, right?  Same here -- I gave the TV several good lateral "whacks" upon the outer edges of the unit!  The whacks weren't violent, just slightly "jarring" and after that, the TV stopped the flickering.  As you've said, it is quite juvenile to go beating on electronics, but interestingly enough, this method of "fixing" the electronics does at least seem to have an effect if done correctly.
I do also note that I went into the TV's menus and intentionally set the "Back Light" setting to "Dark" and "DNR" to "Low" to perhaps attempt to lesser drive the back light.  Since the beatings and then the much more rational idea of changing the menu options, the TV has worked, at least for a while now, relatively well.
