WiFi Yes I purchased an Acer Aspire 5520 do I need to buy a wifi card or is it already installed? Or do I need to just get monthly service?

Hello, your Acer Aspire 5520 should have Wifi card built in. You don't say if you are using this at home or travelling. In order to receive a signal in your home you must have a wireless router putting out a signal from your Cable or DSL internet modem.

If you want to use your wireless in the home you will need to arrange an internet service provider (ISP) ADSL service, then wait until you have been advised that the line has been activated by them, you will pay a monthly charge for this service.

you will also need a wireless modem/router to receive the data from the phone line, then send it on to your computer wirelessly,
the modem/router will need to be set-up with your user name and password ,in the first instance usually provided by the ISP.

hope this helps you
please rate my efforts as that is our reward

I have an older emachine desktop without wi-fi

You can buy a WIFI card that installs into the PCI slots on your MB, or you can buy WIFI USB cards that are equally as powerful. Just be sure to buy the correct WIFI Product that is suitable with the WIFI signal you are trying to get on, i.e. 802.11 B, G, and N. Hope this helps. I installed a TP-Link WIFI PCI card in my 8 year old Acer Aspire T650 and it works great. Good luck.

Can i take the wifi from my dell optiplex 160l and put it in my acer computer?

The answer to your question will depend on what expansion slots your new Acer desktop computer has and whether one of these will match the specific 'half mini PCI-e' card which is used in the Dell Optiplex 160L per http://www.dell.com/uk/business/p/optiplex-160/pd which states it is an Optional Dell Wireless 1397 802.11BG Half Mini-PCIe card.
You will also need to obtain the device drivers for this wireless card in order to use it in the Acer.
Given that the Dell wireless card is only an 11/54MB standard card (802.11BG) I would recommend buying a newer 802.11N wireless card which will be sold with the necessary device driver and software applications needed, will give higher speed connectivity access and be much simpler to install and manage.

I have an Acer Aspire T180 and would like to upgrade the memory and add a wi-fi card. can you advise what cards I need to purchase?

Memory:
Looks like the Aspire T180 takes DDR2 533/667/800 memory. This is pretty easy to upgrade. Check to see how many memory slots your computer has (Probably 4, might only have 2). You should probably just replace what you have with new memory.
I recommend this memory:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122
It is 2x 2GB modules. 4GB of RAM is a good amount of RAM to have, you will see a noticeable performance increase.

WiFi:
I would recommend a USB wifi adaptor. It is easy to instal and most ones work well, even the cheap ones. Just stick it in the back of your computer and forget it it's even there.

I recommend this one, I have been using it for 2 years and have had no problems.

How do we get wifi on computer, do we need an external device?

OK, if it's a desktop or mini desktop like your picture indicates, then a USB Wifi Adapter may work for you. One can purchase one at your local computer shop if you specify what you need.

Good luck on getting Wifi on your computer to work.

I have an acer aspire M3800 with winndows 7 64 bit - can I make it wifi and what would be the best router etc be

wf15

Yes you can install a wireless card in the system. Note I would recommend that you get an external card unless you void your warranty if you open your computer. Next what ever brand you get for your wireless card I would get the same brand router. This way both devices are using the same protocols so you do not have communication issues.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

Hi

I'm not sure, please open the computer case and see if there is a free pci slot.

Note that opening the computer might void warranty.

Also, you would do fine with a USB Wifi adapter. cost around the same if not cheaper.

Thanks and good luck,
let me know if you need anything else.

Theoretically, yes. you'll just need to install the correct driver on the dell and know what you're doing when you install the wifi card.

What to i need to upgrade my dell 2400 to be wireless and wifi

WiFi -- As for the WiFi card that is literally plug and play, particularly if you have the XP service pack w/ the wireless networking utility.

What you want to do is purchace a PCI wifi card. I usually get my parts from tigerdirect.com or newegg.com. Once you get it in, you will need to remove the screws holding on the side of the computer(usually the left pannel) and you will then see 3 small empty slots on the motherboard. you will slide in the wifi card untill the two hooks on the side of the slot click into place. (Make sure you are as grounded as possible before taking out the wifi card from the static free bag.) When you buy the wifi card, it will probally come with a cd with drivers on it. install those before installing the actual card.

What mini pci WIFI card can I use in my Acer Aspire L310?

this laptop has 1 mini card slot for optional wireless LAN (selected models) just choose any decent aftermarket wireless g card and it will work , givin it's drivers are installed correctly and the laptop is set to autoconfigure the wi-fi. Most are set like this by default.
you also have a port for rj-45 , so having a 6ft network cable would be handy if you were sonewhere like a hotel which had free internet but no wireless.

Try to use your laptop in the other wifi connection if it's work the problem is your router wifi configuration. But if cannot work try to check in device manager if your wifi device is working properly. in the RUN type DEVMGMT.MSC and look for your wifi device there if there is a ? mark it's mean that there is a complex configuration in the wifi. remove the wifi device in restart your computer the windows automatic detect the device in install it. try to connect if it is work but if still not work check for the ip and gateway configuration in the wifi setup.
