How do i switch to external monitor

Virtually all IBM and Lenovo ThinkPad and ThinkCenter laptops allow you to hook up an additional monitor or projector to the computer. When you add an external monitor or projector to your notebook, you can choose to view the display on the computer, on the external device, or on both the laptop and the external monitor or projector at the same time. Toggling between viewing devices is as simple as pressing a couple of keys on the keyboard.

Shut down the laptop. Plug the VGA monitor cable from the external monitor or projector into the blue VGA port on the back of the computer. Turn on the external monitor or projector first, and then the Lenovo laptop. Allow the notebook to boot into Windows normally. Press the "Fn" and "F7" keys at the same time to switch the display from the laptop to the external monitor or projector. Press the "Fn" and "F7" keys again to enable the display on both the laptop and the external display device. Press the "Fn" and "F7" keys again to display screen contents only on the laptop LCD. choose support you need http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-54305.html http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-4YQHUC.html enable tv out on thinkpad http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-58625

HP keyboard, How do you turn off the "fn" key? Thanks.

Your digital lock is activated.

To solve this:

"It all depends on the model you have".

Just start at solution "1" and work your way down to "3", If it is a Thinkpad use it only.

1. Simply press the FN (F Lock) and hold a few seconds.
or
2. Simply press together the FN (F Lock) + Num lock. (most common for HP)
or
3. Simply press together the FN (F Lock) + Shift + Num lock.

For IBM Thinkpad only, you must press Shift + Scroll Lock + Num lock.

I have an IBM Thinkpad T42 and the cooling fan stop working. I am looking for the spare part (new). The model number for the part should be fru 13r2919. Can you let me know if you have in stock, the...

Appreciate your inquiry Mario, but this is a Product Support Website.
We offer solutions to product problems, and are not directly connected with any manufacturer, nor seller of manufactured parts.

fru or FRU you see stated, pertains to Field Replaceable Unit.

From a quick search on the internet just now, (I typed fan 13r2919 in my search bar), these are examples of a few search hits,

1) http://www.thinkpad-parts.com/13R2919-ThinkPad.html

2) http://www.lapzone.com/servlet/the-18999/IBM-ThinkPad-T40-T41/Detail

3) http://sparepartworld.com/13r2919-cpu-cooler-fan/product_info.php/products_id/1318608

Looks like a pretty expensive part to me.
Perhaps check Ebay.

Can you plug in an external monitor? If the problem persists on the external monitor it may be a hardware fault, heat problem or a driver issue. If the problem is only with the internal LCD then possibly the cable between the laptop and the LCD is faulty or the LCD is damaged somehow.

Tapping the edges to "fix" the issue does suggest ath hardware fault though.
