Thanks for the replies. I was able to find it that night and luckily for me it was just the fuse. Probably saved around $100 by not having to call a tech.

I'd like to add a little more description of the process because I tried to pop off the grille over the vent at the front of the oven before realizing that there are two screws on the top of the oven that have to be removed. This is for a below cabinet mounted unit. Once the two screws are removed, the grille comes off. Then there is a small grille held on with one screw just above the display/controls. You do not need to remove the screw holding on the display/controls. Once you take off this grille, the fuse is right there. It is probably a slow-blow 250V/15A fuse (in case you want to get it before you take it all apart).

This was exactly what was wrong with my Advantium/220v model. The fuse was a 250V/20A (20 Amp, rather than 15 as described above). I suggest you make sure you read the side of the fuse before you buy a replacement. Always replace a fuse with an equal to or lower than amperage listed on the fuse with the same voltage rating. If you aren't sure, simply take it to your local hardware store and have them help you choose.

Getting to the fuse was not hard. The only problem I had was dismounting the unit from the wall to get to the screws holding the grill. If your unit is mounted over a counter, be sure to put a thick cloth over the counter before you remove the bolts in the cabinet above he unit. These units rocker onto a mounting bracket behind them, and then bolt to the cabinet above. To remove, you'll bring the unit down onto its face to do the work. Be careful as you loosen the bolts holding the unit up, as the oven will begin to drop. If you have the installation guide, or download it from GE, it'll help you visualize how to do this. It may be you don't have to bring the unit completely down to expose the screws; but if you do, it's a bit heavy and unwieldy, so have a friend help you.

One thing to note, however, is why the fuse has blown in the first place. It could simply be the fuse has worn (they do wear with regular use of the oven, fluctuating house current, etc.). It could also signal a problem with the oven. If you find that the fuse is now failing regularly, have the unit serviced (and let them know you've been replacing the fuse).

Remove the housing, it covers the sides and top. Then look above the display near where the 220 cord enters. That is the main fuse. There are 4 others in this oven. Good luck.

GE Advantium SCA1000 will not come on

If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work.

If that doesn't help then there might be a burned wire or a component that can only be found out by opening it up, which is not recommended.

Please rate the solution if you found it helpful.

Microwave oven problem

A fuse blows most often because of an excess of current due to a failed (or failing) component (high voltage cap, transformer, or door interlock switch) or a surge; or due to overheating of the fuse caused by a fuse holder that is too loose.

If replacing the fuse fixes it, then it may have been a fluke surge.

But don't be surprised if it blows again. If so, I would refer you back to my previous solution post here:

Or feel free to post back with details. Good luck!
