Question about Sharp AL 1631 Copier

Adding developer Where and how much developer is required by the Sharp AL-1631. Ordered developer and they delivered a 190 gram bottle that is supposed to be 6 charges worth. Do I add only 1/6 of the 190 grams to the toner? Thanks for your help.

Just want to add developer. Adding toner to cartridge is simple task. Just remove 4 screws and pour in toner. I don't know how to handle the developer! Thanks for your help.

Based on advise received, I did the following. Just to the right of the "big" plug (where the toner is added), there is a smaller plug where the developer is added. I removed the small plug and rather than take a chance damaging any sensor, I simply shook the cartridge to remove all the old develpoer I could. Once empty, I added 190 grams of new developer. I then removed the big plug, shook the unit to remove all the old toner I could. I then added 22 grams of new toner. I re-installed the unit and the machine is working perfectly. Just as good as when brand new. The "6 charges" of developer means that the developer will work for 6 changes of the toner. Once you refill the toner 6 times, it's time to change the developer. Thanks for all the input, help and advise.

Do not vacuum developer from these cartridges unless you want to blow the TDC sensor this will cause your copier to constantly feed toner and make a mess.

I place the cartridge on end after disassembling and rotate magroll by hand and wipe/ brush developer off roll until almost completely bare roll shows.
then fill up w/new developer by carefully pouring developer on magroll when cartridge is sitting on it's left side and roll faces up turn roll slowly while evenly pouring developer on roll.-no need to split cartridge.
then refill toner using provided spout

do not forget to vacuum clear waste sump on front of cartridge or you WILL have a mess.

Reassemble and test-these are good for many recharges.
we have done hundreds of them sucessfully with only an occasional defective ctg

Never overfill the toner hopper or tap it down multiple times and try to get more in than specified.

and finally use a hepa filter or toner approved vacuum.

190 Grams is the exact amont of developer required. Disassemble the cartridge by removing the green handle (2 screws),Black cover under that(2 screws),.Ten under that remove the 2 screws in order to separate the cartridge by lifting and pulling slightly. The top half has two pins petruding from it on the rear and there are no screws on the rear.Dump/vacume or blow out all old developer.Pour in 190g of new developer. Patially reassemble cartridge and then fill with toner 220g of toner by removing larger plastic plug.Reassemble install and allow the machine to cycle till ready.

If you buy a new toner cartridge the developer is already in it.
Are you mixing ink and toner to rebuild cartridges?
If your just a user, once you replace the toner cartridge you have added new ink with the developer in it.
If you are not mixing and rebuilding the toner cartridge, and installing a new one, You do not need developer.

I went to a site and read the info. Yeah weigh out 1/6th the weight and install it. Shake the cartridge well after.

What the developer is, is a magnetic material the the toner adheres to and applies it to the mag, roller then to the drum.

Just be sure you vacuum out the old developer from the cartridge.

That should take care of things for you.

Hey thank you for the info.

I had not seen that procedure for that cartridge.

    Thats great to know.

    Thanks again.

I have a red triangle flashing and the copier sounds like it is trying to warm up and then does nothing. what is going on?

Hi, this triangle means that the toner is empty. This can also be caused by a defective developer unit drive gears. Check that it is okay if not replace the gears. Replace the toner cartridge or refill the toner in its unit. Make sure you empty the waste on its side as it may cause some noise or toner spills. Use cartridge Sharp Al100td or refill with Sharp Al1000 toner bottle. All the best.
