Question about Computers & Internet

USB stick I need an easy way to transfer my designs from my MacIntosh Laptop, (1 year old) to my Artista 200E sewing machine. I just bought (with advice from a lady in the Martha Pullen organization) a PNY 1GB Attache' USB 2/0 stick. Do you think it will work for me? Thanks, Pat Anderson

If the files you have saved are in the format that the sewing machine will read and the sewing machine has a USB port to plug the memory stick into, it should work.

Your sewing machine manual may have instructions on how to import files.

200E freezes up

A 200e that locks up usually need a memory and a firmware upgrade. The original 200's only have 32mb of internal memory. The upgraded mini print board that is used in the 730 has 64mb of memory. This 64mb board was used in the 200 as a upgrade and this stopped the lock up problem. Also over the years Bernina has improved the firmware and this also cures the lock up problem. The latest and probably last firmware version for the 200e is version 5, also called the cutwork version. The easiest thing for you to do would be to take your 200 to a dealer and have them install a 64mb mini print board and also upgrade your machines firmware to the latest version 5. Also if you have loaded embroidery designs in your machine, remove them as they use up the machines memory. When you get too many designs loaded even if you have a 64 MB board in your machine you can still have lockup problems.

How do I get memory?

Hi do you have the USB port on the side of your sewing machine? If so, you can plug in a USB stick. You transfer your designs from the computer to the USB thumb drive. Then plug in the USB and you get your designs. I use a sandisk 8th stick called cruzer blade. Buy it cheap on eBay or at staples. I know this USB flash drive works but you can try others as well. Don't buy the bernina USB stick it is a ripoff.

My Bernina Artista 180E no longer works with updated Windows. Is it possible to upgrade so that I can still use my 180E and not have to buy another machine?

Just use the free download software from Bernina called Artlink. I used it along with a USB to Serial converter cable to connect to the machine. Works wonderfully. Allows me to still use my old Artista designer software if I want to on an older machine and then when I want to actually transfer the designs I use the laptop with the USB cable.

I just purchased a Bernina sewing/embroidery machine. I would like to use an HP memory stick rather than a Bernina brand memory stick(more costly) Would it work on my Bernina Artista 630.

Yes, I have this machine and any USB stick will work in the machine. There is also an included USB cord where you can transfer designs from your computer directly to the machine as well.

I need to convert my parellel port dongle to USB

I have the same problem...V3 software. have not heard of an adapter. The software wouldn't work with Windows XP or Vista anyway. I upgraded to Editor plus V5 but have kept my old Designer plus on an ancient laptop so I can transfer old patterns. You will also find that your new laptop doesn't have a serial port to accomodate the old cable to bernina 180. Unfortunately it's always the case with updating a PC. Everything else has to follow! My advice, get hold of an old laptop:)
