Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
When printing from a PC or when copying, a large (1/4" wide) black line appears on the opposite side (that is being printed on) of the sheet of paper.
It appears that before printing begins a large drop of black ink is released before the paper arrives creating a puddle that is then spread across the back side of the printed document.
We have changed ink cartridges and it hasn't solved the problem.
Almost appears to be a software/signal problem sending a command to open the ink cartridge before the print information has arrived.
Any idea what's causing this and how to proceed?
I have exactly the same problem with a Canon Pixma MP800, I have cleaned the rollers, changed the ink cartridges and reset the printer. It will print a few pages cleanly then dump black ink on the roller which leaves a heavy black line on the back of the page. It fades away after printing about 10 pages and then a few pages later appears again. The printer is two years old and it looks as if I must buy another. Should I buy another Canon?

I have the same issue, I bought a new print head from ebay (£35) and all seemed well for about 3 weeks then the black line came back again!!!

Same issue here and same age printer? WTF, sounds like a Canon scam! They refered me to call the local service center who wants $60 up front which only includes 1 hr of diagnostics and no parts. I was going to pull it apart and try to fix myself but it is seeming like it is a electronic issue with signals and not mechanical like a full ink absorber. I have already pulled the long foam absorber along the track along with the two absorbers at the end of the track where the tanks park and all are now clean. Still no change.

Same problem here. I called the local authorized service center who was saying the ink absorber is full. I already cleaned the long foam track absorber and the two harder inserts which lay where the black heads park at the end of the track. Still doing the same thing. I was going to pull it apart but I now think that it is a signal issue after readin the comments here. The service center wants $60 up front which covers 1 hr. and no parts!

problem is when the printer does a head clean dumps large amount of black ink on to rollers. Replacement head is almost £100 and not certain to fix fault
