Canon Pixma MP 800 printing Issue (heavy black line on opposite side of print page

When printing from a PC or when copying,  a large (1/4" wide) black line appears on the opposite side (that is being printed on) of the sheet of paper.
It appears that before  printing begins a large drop of black ink is released before the paper arrives creating a puddle that is then spread across the back side of the printed document.
We have changed ink cartridges and it hasn't solved the problem.
Almost appears to be a software/signal problem sending a command to open the ink cartridge before the print information has arrived.
Any idea what's causing this and how to proceed?

Heavy black line prints vertically on back side of document, heaviest on first page, fading as print job continues. Looks like ink is getting onto paper feed roller before paper gets there. No ink problem on front of paper - printing is fine, but heavy stripe on back of paper.

Line appears horizontally across the page in two places, parallel to each other.

I am having the same problem with my PIXMA MP830. Thick black line prints on back of page, and gets lighter with each additional page printed.

I have also changed all ink cartridges and performed all maintenance and cleaning.

same problem! anyone have a solution?!

I have a Canon Pixma MP800 with the same problem, a heavy black line on the back of the page. If I clean the roller it might print 20 pages cleanly and then it returns and fades away over 10 pages, then 20 clean pages then a heavy black line again. I have changed all the ink cartridges, cleaned the rollers and reset the printer. The printer is just over two years old and the only thing left is to buy a new printer as I must print urgently. Is it wise to buy another Canon?

I took my Canon Pixma MP800 and had it serviced for $75. They took the printer apart and found a small shred of torn paper that got stuck in the printer when a sheet of paper feed in at an angle instead of straight in.
Somehow the paper shred was getting covered in ink and "wiping itself against the back of the page when you print.
It required quite a bit of disassembly work but no parts.
It has worked fine ever since.
I made a block of wood as a guide to hold the paper in straight so it can't feed at an angle. Repair shop says this is caused by having only one "feed roller" for the paper instead of two.

I have exactly the same problem with a Canon Pixma MP800, I have cleaned the rollers, changed the ink cartridges and reset the printer. It will print a few pages cleanly then dump black ink on the roller which leaves a heavy black line on the back of the page. It fades away after printing about 10 pages and then a few pages later appears again. The printer is two years old and it looks as if I must buy another. Should I buy another Canon?

The only final thing to add is that I removed the print head and the base was clogged with ink. I cleaned it and replaced it but it still prints a heavy black line. I removed it and it was clogged with ink again. I guess the print head needs replacing but it is £100 (£45 on eBay) and it might not fix the problem. It looks like I need a new printer.

I have the same issue, I bought a new print head from ebay (£35) and all seemed well for about 3 weeks then the black line came back again!!!

Same issue here and same age printer? WTF, sounds like a Canon scam! They refered me to call the local service center who wants $60 up front which only includes 1 hr of diagnostics and no parts. I was going to pull it apart and try to fix myself but it is seeming like it is a electronic issue with signals and not mechanical like a full ink absorber. I have already pulled the long foam absorber along the track along with the two absorbers at the end of the track where the tanks park and all are now clean. Still no change.

Same problem here. I called the local authorized service center who was saying the ink absorber is full. I already cleaned the long foam track absorber and the two harder inserts which lay where the black heads park at the end of the track. Still doing the same thing. I was going to pull it apart but I now think that it is a signal issue after readin the comments here. The service center wants $60 up front which covers 1 hr. and no parts!

it is now March 2014, has this problem been solved as a DIY project? I am very mechanically minded and will have a go at anything, especially if it would be going to the dump otherwise. MP800 owners will know that there are 5 ink tanks, of which 2 are black, I guess the small black is for colour printing and the large black is for 'greyscale' printing. Having cleaned the printhead, I taped over the outlet of the large tank and ran a few 'Black Copies' until it started to miss. I then removed the tape and did another black print the 1/4inch black line came on the first page. How to stip the large black tank dropping ink on the feed roller before printing?

Heavy black stripe on back side of every printed page

This is probably due to miss alignment, there is an option of test page which will be scanned to allign the cartridge, if ur's a all in one printer. This test page is printed at the first time and scanned instantly for first time operation.

Thankyou

I've got a Canon Pixma MP 500. Printing from my computer = faded print. Copying = blank page. Auto head align fails. Alarm light goes on. Have tried stop/reset button. How can I fix this?

Hello,

It sounds like the print head on your printer is either clogged or not working.

You get faint print from your computer because the computer will use your color inks to get gray. When you copy, it only tries to use black and the black isn't printing at all.

Check your user's manual and it should show you how to clean the print head. Otherwise replace the print heads and you should be fine.

Thanks,

Pat

HI Foster,
The problem is not with the print head. Print a blank page and if you are still getting the streak. Something is probably trapped in the printer or the rollers are dirty.

There must be a strip of glass about one inch wide, next to
the large glass. There is the problem !
Clean that strip thourougly. When you use the feeder the pages
are scanned thru the small strip of glass.

Here's the link for how to clean the unit... I was going to post the instructions here, but there are pictures that might be helpful to you.

Before doing anything more drastic, I would try this.. let us know how it turns out.. if it doesn't work, we'll go from there.
