Hi, my printer has still ink left (black and colour ink as well) but all off a sudden didn't print in black anymore and after two more tries it doesn't print in colour neither. I was thinking of cleaning the ink head(s) but can't remember how.
I know that it is not a real new printer but I haven't given it much use.

Help me please my Epson Stylus SX215 black ink won`t print. I cleaned the head 3-5 times and the nozzle but it still wont`t print black , it is brand new.Is it because the printer didn`t work maybe 2 months. Yesterday i bought all inks and the other are working , the black no :[ please help
Yes it will still print with black provided that your computer still detects the colored cartridge tanks. If you are certain that there is still some ink left on the colored ones, take them one by one and shake them hard as if you are trying to distribute the ink evenly. After that, you need to do a test print to utilize the colored inks.
The ink path is probably plugged. Try getting some ink cleaner and a squeeze bulb to purge the path IN the printer by forcing cleaning fluid into the yellow channel (cartridge removed). After it flows, it will likely take a bit to get the yellow flowing. If you have a refill kit, you could "encourage" the flow with it. Nothing you can fix by cartridge, the problem is in the printhead.
You have to have both the cartridge installed and then Run a nozzle check to make sure the nozzles are clean. Try running a printer self-test to make sure the printer is running properly without using the computer.
Macintosh 9.x or earlier: Open the File menu and choose Print. Click the Ink icon. You'll see a window showing the ink remaining in each cartridge.
Macintosh OS X: Double-click the Applications folder on your hard drive. Double-click EPSON Printer Utility, select the C42 Series printer in the Printer List window and click OK. Then click the EPSON StatusMonitor button. You'll see a window showing the ink remaining in each cartridge
Hi, this is not a solution because I don't think there is one apart from buying new inks. Epson and all other inkjet printers do this to prevent the coloured print head nozzles from getting blocked. If they are not used for a long time the ink dries up and blocks the nozzles. Epson recommends printing at least once a month with all colours to prevent this. Printing in black only option will only work if the colored inks are OK. Whenever the printer is turned on it performs a head clean, this is why the coloured inks get used over time even though they are not used for printing.
Check the following thread, it might apply to your problem.
and just as a printer can be fooled to show a low level ink, I guess it can happen the other way around.
