I lost my msi motherboard cd, need help getting the drivers. cant update my nic card to be able to connect to the internet to use driver update software programs.

Sir,

Before getting driver from manufacturer website you should know mother board model. no and year of manufacture etc etc.... This can be detected by a small software called belarc advisor(search at google, it's free download). Download and install it. It will detect the motherboard no., after getting the number u can search at google for driver download.

Thanks
Good Luck

I dont have recovery CD for my laptop

Being that you don't have the recovery cd, I would probably do the following (in this order):

1. Do a System Recovery (go to Start > Help and Support > type in System Recovery in the search field > look for Run System Recovery Wizard)

2. If the above didn't fix my problem, then I would try to determine if it was a hardware issue (bad RAM, fan, processor, etc) or if it was definitely a software issue (operating system is kaput, virus, etc...)

3. Contact Toshiba and find out how much it would cost to get another Recovery CD.

4. If it costed more than $100 dollars (and you're a little computer inclined) then I would buy myself a fresh Windows XP Home Edition OEM version (runs about $90 if not less)

BUT... before sticking in that cd, make sure that you download the device drivers or back up your device drivers for your system (network driver, graphics drivers, chipset drivers).. once you've backed up those things onto a cd or disk, then I would go ahead and put in a fresh copy of Windows XP and reformat the computer.

Once thats done, you can put in that back cd you made and have the computer find the drivers on your disc when it says "New Hardware Found..." and just make sure you have it search your disc drive.

IF it doesn't cost much to get a Recover CD from Toshiba, then by all means, get it and put that bad boy in. Of course, when formatting anything, back up your files that you need (address book, documents, etc) and then reformat with the CD.

LOST ETHERNET DRIVER

If you have the "Windows XP" operating system then follow these instructions...If you have a second computer with an internet connection then you can search on the internet for that driver...type the make and model of your computer plus the word "ethernet driver" and after you find it you just download it into "My Documents"...after that, copy the driver onto a blank CD disc...Take the CD and put it into your notebook and it should open and extract the file ..If it doesn't open up when you load the CD, go into "My Computer" and then double click on the "CD/CDRW/DVD/DVD-RW drive...restart your computer and remove the CD from the disc drive...Now plug your DSL into your ethernet port and see if it works...if it still does not work then go into "Control Panel" and then "Network and Internet Connections" and then "Network Connections" and then "Create a New Connection" and then follow the instructions...restart your computer and see if it finds the ethernet port and receives the signal through the ethernet cord

Easily taken care of, all you really need to do is go to the website for whatever componant you need the driver for, all you really need to know is what model componant you have, then download the proper driver and install. Or do a basic web search.

Restoring factory settings

You can restore your laptop using a regular windows cd, formatting the disk and reinstalling the OS again. After that all the devices which the drivers are not included on the windows CD like for example; network, sound, video, you can download them from the manufacturer website and complete in this way the process to restore your laptop to zero.
