Yes I have an iPod 30GB M# A1136 it shows the "www.apple.com/support/iPod" message along with the sad face and the "!" exclamation mark. I've tried lots of things that were suggested on line like slamming it down to a note pad with charging port down... that did not help. I also opened it to see if the wires were disconnected but they were not...So I am not sure what’s going on? Can someone please help?

well my ipod recently took a swim apparently drying it off didn't fix it!!! On the screen is a cancelation sign with the website www.apple.com/support/ipod. I plugged it in to a usb cable on the computer to try to fix it and nothing. Now the screen is completely blank, (not showing any sign of life,) which leads me here.

  • Anonymous Aug 03, 2008

My ipod has a sad ipod face and has the link apple.com/support/ipod listed beneath it. Another screen came up telling me to plug my ipod into my ITunes in four different languages. However, I'm trying this as we speak and it doesn't seem to be having any affect. Any suggestions?

  • Kringhaug Aug 03, 2008

My ipod also keeps turning on and off showing the www.apple.com/support/ipod thing. But when i try to connect it to the computer itunes won't run, not even if I click on itunes. And if i try to access my computer it hangs up. But then again when i disconnect my ipod the hang up goes away and itunes pops up. I have to connect the ipod to itunes too restore it.....

  • lonelyrunner Aug 03, 2008

yeah, I'm mourning the loss of my ipod right now, even skipped my run.  It just wouldn't be the same without my partner... I have tried a hard re-boot, and for a second I am able to see a glimmer of hope in the "very low battery" sign, but unfortunately she goes blank again....is there any hope?

I had this problem with my 4th gen. click wheel; It started acting up a few months ago. It would freeze, I would reset it, it would play for a while (days to weeks) and then it would need a reset. Last week it gave me the sad face and would no longer reset (wouldn't even connect to my computer). As much as I want the latest model, I can't afford it. Sending it to a genius looked like it would cost at least $70-100, so I made an educated guess/gamble and ordered a battery kit from ipodjuice.com for around $35. It worked! I replaced the battery and now have my tunes again. I'm not saying that every time you get a warning and the sad ipod icon that it's the battery (there are many things that can go wrong in the software and hardware), but a dead battery is one possibility. If you haven't dropped it, scorched it, drowned it, or exposed it to a bug, a dead battery is a good possibility.

SOURCE: my ipod says www.apple.com/support/ipod

Guys, if you have the ipod photo, I used to get the hard drive locking up , which would bring up the www.apple.com/support/ipod screen.

WHen you try to start it up, put the ipod to your ear and listen to hear if the hard drive is stuck-ie if you can hear the drive repeating a clicking noise, then it is stuck.

If it does this, hit the ipod with an open hand (like a slap). No joke. This is for real. Slap it a couple of times and then try to restart it. If it doens't work the first time, try it again. SOmetimes it works first go, sometimes it takes a few, but eventually it does work.
It seems like the hardware inside is stuck for some reason and slapping it fixes the problem.

My ipod has locked up about 5 or 6 times and each time it has worked for me.

Give it a go. Don't pay apple to get it fixed. They probably do the same thing and charge you hundreds for it.

Good luck!

SOURCE: ipod shows www.apple.com/support/ipod, makes strange noise

If your iPod is making strange noises, you have a broken hard-drive. They're quite easy to replace though and I'll be able to guide you, if you can source the part.

Try a reset:

How to reset iPod To reset an iPod with a Click Wheel, including:iPod nano (3rd generation) iPod classic iPod (5th generation) iPod nano (2nd generation)iPod nano iPod with color display (iPod photo) iPod (Click Wheel) iPod mini iPod mini (2nd generation)

Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds.

You may need to repeat this step. Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

To reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector)Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button. When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time is preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: i turn the ipod on an it keeps on showing the

You need to restore your iPod from Disk mode:

  1. Before placing the iPod into disk mode, you should verify that it is charged.
  2. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  3. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.

    ht1363_2.jpg

  5. Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect"
  6. Open iTunes.
  7. After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
  8. Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
  9. Click Restore.
Hope that helps.
Cheers.

This indicates that the hard drive inside the iPod classic has gone bad.

Check Apple's Warranty web page to see if your iPod is still under warranty: https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do

Simply type in the Serial Number located on the back of the iPod, and your location. Who knows, if you are lucky, you may be able to send it in to get it fixed/replaced for free.
