Start by inserting a document into machine and press the copy button. if come out ok then check your phone line to see if it's live and plugged into the right slot marked "L" and not phone. if still not able to fax try to call that number using a regular phone and listen for the high pitched squeeling noise.
hope this helps.

Thank You,

Mikey

HOW CAN I STOP THE MACHINE FROM PRINTING AN ERROR REPORT AND WASTING A PAGE OF RIBBON

The brother fax machine will always print out a transmission report when there is a failure to send a fax.

There is no way to turn this feature off.
The closest option to this is turning transmission reports off, but this will still print out a message when the fax does not go through properly.

What is error code b9 mean on the brother fax 1030?

Hello :

B9 Light emission intensity error of the LED array .
Check CIS unit (scanner device) or check main PCB .
According the error either one of these units can be faulty or a lose connection but getting to these would require you take apart most of your fax machine . Maybe it's time to purchase a new fax machine .

good luck .

rate please !

Brother IntelliFax 2800 -

You can find the manual for the fax machine here.

Turn to page 10-1 (page 93 in the pdf-file), which tells you how to turn the transmission report off.

  1. Press Menu/Set, 2, 4, 1.
  2. Press to select OFF, OFF+IMAGE, ON or ON+IMAGE, and then press Menu/Set.
  3. Press Stop/Exit.

The screen keeps on showing " memory full".

Hi,
I can advise you on the 'memory full' problem, mate.

If you get a MEMORY FULL message while scanning the first page of a fax, press Stop to cancel the scan. If you get a MEMORY FULL message while scanning in a subsequent page, you’ll have the option to press Start to transmit the pages scanned
so far, or to press Stop to cancel the operation. In this case, send the fax by the Manual Transmission.
Depending on your typical faxes, MEMORY FULL errors can occur frequently. If this happens, change the Memory Transmission setting back to OFF.
To do this:

Press Function/Set, 3, 9.
This should take you to MEMORY TX
and MEMORY TX: ON?
Then press either the left or the right arrow (< or >) to switch on or off, and press Function/Set.
For the next fax transmission only, press < or > to select
NEXT FAX ONLY and press Function/Set.

This will mean you don't add any more to the memory and may be able to send faxes. There is a possibility that you will only be able to fax using manual transmission, but at least you should be able to use the machine to fax at all!

I apologise if the jargon is confusing, just try to go through the process one step at a time and you should be fine.

Hope this helps :)

Brother Fax 1020

The 1020 only had a hard copy manual (ie not on PDF). The 1020e was rework of the previous model of the 1020 so it should be pretty much the same. Try this link - http://www.remington.com.pg/PDF_files/Brother%20-%20Plain%20Paper%20Faxes/Fax%201020e/Fax%201020e%20User%20Guide.pdf

Transmission Verification Report

HI Shelia. THere is a button marked as "function" on your fax machine and got to "set up". Press that and select the "print out" group. When you get in there you will see "reports"... select that and it will let you get into your reports mode. Make sure you have transmission turned off. You can set it up to print out every 50 faxes...that seems to work best for most people. You may have to dig around in those menus...but its in there. I just don't have one sitting in front of my right now. If you still can't find it, email me back and I will look monday when I am back at the shop.

Problem with printing...

First and most important with Brother machines is , you need to use genuine brother supplies. Almost every time I service a brother and I find generic toner and drums cause the print quality issues. New supplies cost as much as a new machine. If not the supplies then it is laser or power supply.
