I have a NEC VT470 Projector. The power light is steady orange and the status light blinks red 6 times.

steady orange means projector in standby mode
red light 6 times is a lamp error.
either the lamp is old and wont start up or the ballast power pcb is not working.
can you hear the sparking of the high voltage trying to strike the lamp.
if you can then the lamp may be dodgy.
can you borrow one to test it out

How to Replace the Ballast in a Samsung DLP

Fist what is a TV ballast?

A television's ballast is a device connected to the lamp that provides an electric current, keeping the lamp operational. If you have a new lamp that isn't working properly, then you will more than likely need to replace the ballast. Replacing your television's ballast is less challenging than working with other parts of a Samsung Television, and is something that you should be able to do yourself.

  1. Remove the back panel of your Samsung DLP television, and then remove the lamp.
  2. Carefully unscrew the cover sensor switch, which should be located near the bottom-right side.
  3. Remove the two screws holding the lamp connector in place and slide it out.
  4. Remove the screws holding the inside unit of the TV in place, and very carefully ease the right side out, allowing access to the ballast.
  5. Unscrew the circuit board, remove the two cables going to the existing ballast and replace it with the new ballast in the same fashion.
  6. Put the inside unit of the television back in place and screw it in.
  7. Reattach the cover sensor switch.
  8. Reinstall the lamp and screw the back panel of the television back into position.
hope it works..

I have an NEC VT470. The projector shut down after the lamp finished. When I replaced the lamp and pressed the start button, the projector does not come back on.

Some of the NEC units have a standby status when the lamplife has exceeded its safe limit, the unit I had needed the off button pressing for up to 20 seconds to reset the lamplife and allow the unit to be switched back on. There should be info for this in your manual.

Good luck

Nec vt470 lamp does not come on. replace lamp, when turned on status light turns red and get 3 beeps. lamp does not come on.

If you replaced the lamp already, chances are the ballast is defective. When you power on the projector with the power button you should see a flicker of light in the lens, or an electrical sound. If you don't you ballast is bad.

Sounds like you lamp ballast has gone bad. I good way to verify this is, when you press power on the projector look inside the lens. If you see a small amount of light, then the ballast is good, and the lamp is bad. If there is no light then chances are the ballast is bad.

NEC LT265 PROJECTOR WILL POWER UP BUT WILL NOT COME ON. BULB IS A YEAR OLD. WAS PLAYING A MOVIE WHEN IT WENT OFF AND WILL NOT COME BACK ON. NOR WIL THE FAN RUN. POSSIBLE BALLAST?

It cannot be a ballast because the fan would not run off a ballast. Sounds like a serious hardware failure, I would check with the manufacturer.

Nec lt380 changed lamp for new one still doesnt work?

If the unit is powering up but the lamp is not igniting, most likely there is a problem with the ballast.(Ballast is the circuit that starts and then maintains lamp current) When starting the projector, it is sometimes possible to look directly into the lens and see small "lightning" flashes. This is the high voltage ignition current trying to start an electrical arc in the lamp. You can also hear a "clicking" sound--same thing. If the ballast is defective, the unit must be repaired at a facility--send it in directly--not through a store. If the unit is totally dead(no lights at all), there usually is a main fuse located near the power cord(inside the unit) that blows. If you've never had tech training, don't attempt to open the unit--it is very easy to accidentally damage components unless you know exactly how to remove the top cover.

Try pressing the HELP button. Don't release and press the power button. The LED lights should blink. Release then try to power on again.
