Free download for a Genius ColorPage-Vivid 4Xe for operating system Windows . (I have the original cd when I bought it),but always have problems installing the scanner. It normally shutdown the computer...

There is definitely a problem with your Scanner driver. You have to carefully reinstall the driver which is made for your Windows that you are using otherwise it can be corrupt and It will give you problems in the long run.
Your Windows should be the following and no other or you will have problems

Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP

Download the driver/software from here
http://www.driverskit.com/freedownload/Scanner/Genius/ColorPage_Vivid_4XE/14424.html

Make sure your computer is clean of computer Viruses using a good anti virus software.

I downloaded updates for my Windows NT. I can't play mp3s anymore. COOD1059 is the error that comes out.

WELL i suppose this error is on windows media player right!?
if it is, then its a normal codec conflicts, since windows NT and others always relyied on 3rd parties softwares for decoders! i dnt know how to exactly fix it, **** i have an idea, and its to clean or optimize your registery with any free programe, ccleaner can help.
you can always reinstall your decoder...or media player(google), **** a smart thing to do is "CHANGE YOUR PLAYER" ;)

Lode needed dlls for kernel

Use the ERD disk and repair the installation. Choose to replace all files, and then replace only the Hal.dll and Ntoskrnl.exe files.

If you can start another installation of Windows NT on the same computer, you can expand the correct Hal.dll and Ntoskrnl.exe files from the Windows NT CD-ROM. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Boot to the working version of Windows NT.
  2. Start a command prompt.
  3. Change to the CD-ROM drive.
  4. Change to the appropriate folder on the CD-ROM (for example, I386 for Intel-based computers).
  5. Type expand hal.dl_ <systemroot>\system32 where <systemroot> is the path of the non-functioning Windows NT folder.
  6. Type expand ntoskrnl.ex_ <systemroot>\system32.
  7. Restart the computer into the other Windows NT installation.

Windows operating systems

No, you cannot. You would have to do a clean install, which means wiping the old system off your hard drive (backing up everything you want to keep, of course).....nor can you go the other direction either...again, a clean install...
Here's the Microsoft page on it if you want to read it:
