Question about Samsung DVDR120 DVD Recorder

1 Answer

Does not recognize a blank DVD

This may be a very basic problem, but I just purchased a Samsung DVD Record which I hooked up to my VCR (I get a signal just fine.) When I insert a blank DVD, it says it "cannot play disc" and to insert another. However, it's supposed to say something along the lines of "do you want to initialize this disc?"

What is the fix?

Thanks!

I bought DVD-R 1-16xspeed made by TDK which work fine.... it seems to be a bit of a mine field of discs available but I do remember these were recommended by Samsung via a leaflet in the box.

My Insignia DVD/VCR will play VHS tapes, but does not record on them when I put a blank in and it shows recording on the VCR, but when I rewind and playback, just get blank sometimes wavy nothing and snow!...

First thing to check is does the video actually get a TV signal to record? When you set the recording going is the channel viewable?
Next thing to do is clean all the video heads, this will include the erase head! If you still can't get it to record and the VCR does pick up a signal to record, then there will be an electronic fault that is causing the no record signal.

It is only a DVD player, you can't record with it. You can only record on VHS tape.

Recording TV

Hi.. it looks as if that particular dvd/vcr is not compatible with the coding digital signals that the hdmi is putting out so it's not converting the signal over correctly.. if you try just using the regular analog cable instead of the hdmi, that might solve your problem.. i hope this helps..d
