Directly from the wall, phone line should be connected to to Line port at the back of the printer and answering machine should be connected to EXT. port from the back of the printer. Make sure on the fax setting on the printer that you have all the info already ( ur number and stuffs), communication setting on the printer, drd set to all, ecm to off, v.34 to off, rings to answer 6 and dial tone detection to off. and answering machine distinctive ring pattern should be set to 4rings.

And since you are using DSL make sure that line from wall should have a filter then connect it to LINE port at the back of printer...

Able to send faxes but unable to receive.

you need to check how the fax machine is setup for receiving faxes. i recommend you try it first without the answering machine, to see if it works. if it doesnt, then it has to do with the auto answer or the number of rings not set right, if it does work, it could be that you need to set it to check for fax while the answering machine is answering, check the manual under answering faxes.
thanks adi

Canot recieve fax

Try these settings ::>>

1.) Press Setup
2.) Select Fax Settings, then press OK
3.) Select Communication, then press OK

< under communication try these settings >
> DRD should be all
> ECM should be off
> V.34 should be off
> Rings to answer ( if you have an answering machine?
or a voice mail service either virtual or physical.,
check how many rings does it have before it picks up )
set your printers rings to answer about 2 rings higher than these devices.
> Auto answer on the control Panel of the printer should be on / enabled

Note ::>> If still cannot receive a fax? try to disconnect your voice mail or
answering machine to the line to Isolate Issue whether printer cannot receive
a fax or the said devices is having an issue with the printers fax
receiving capability.

Can't send or receive

fax machines are analog devices and will not work reliably on a digital phone line.

Incoming faxes not received, all else works.

Hi there,

It is your phone answering machine that must pick up in three rings or less.

Therefore 4 is too much. I would not limit number for fax machine itself.

On receipt of fax sometimes seems like it will not work when answering machine picks up in the middle. However, leave it and it will work. Sometimes sender will hear your answering machine and cancel as well. So try to ensure they don't give up at other end as well.

Good Luck!

Can not recieve fax. currently just hooked to phone line

Receive a fax
Depending on the Auto Answer setting, your HP All-in-One can receive faxes
automatically or manually. If you have set the Auto Answer option to Off, you will
need to receive faxes manually. If the Auto Answer option is set to On (the default
setting), your HP All-in-One will automatically answer incoming calls and receive faxes
after the number of rings specified by the Rings to Answer setting. (The default
Rings to Answer setting is five rings.)
Receive a fax manually
If you set up your HP All-in-One to receive faxes manually (the Auto Answer option is
set to Off) or you answer the phone and hear fax tones,
1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is turned on and you have paper loaded in the input
tray.
2. Remove any originals from the document feeder tray.
3. If you are currently on the phone with the sender, instruct the sender to press
Start on their fax machine.
4. When you hear fax tones from a sending fax machine, do the following:
a. Press Fax on the control panel of your HP All-in-One.
b. When prompted, press 2 to select Receive fax.
c. After the HP All-in-One begins to receive the fax, you can hang up the phone.

Fax function not working

Make sure that the phone line is plugged in directly to the line port of your printer. Please check on the diagram below.

d060464.jpg

Just to isolate the issue do not plugin yet the answering machine or voice mail as of the moment. So basically the phoneline setup is from the walljack going to the printer.

We need to adjust the settings first.

6b256f2.jpg
Change
DRD > all
ECM > off
V.34 > off
Rings to answer > 4
Dial tone detection > on

Note: make sure the auto answer is turned on.

Then you can test to send/receive fax

EPSON CX9400

Did you hit the Auto Answer button? The green light next to it should be on.

Cx9400fax

Epson Quick Guide is incorrect.

Not sure of your exact situation but .........
Your answering machine MUST be connected directly to the output of your CX9400 and you can't use an answering machine with multiple "mailboxes". Set your answering machine to 4 and your CX9400 to 5/6 rings. Epson "Technical Support" has no clue of this problem .... yet.

The machine routes the call to your answering machine, it it's an incoming FAX and the answering machine starts the CX9400 will recognize the incoming transmit signal, turn on the FAX function, and disconnect your answering machine.

You may need to adjust the CX9400 rings setting based upon the duration of your answering machines announce message (longer message = greater number)

Cannot figure how to set up Canon MP830 All in One Fax machine with remote answering machine

Cannot figure how to hook up Canon MP830 all in one fax with remote answering machine. I can plug in phone line to send faxes fine but when hooked up in same hole and the phone rings it goes immediately to fax and can't receive phone calls. Maybe i have phone line hooked up in wrong place on my machine. The answering machine is in our master bedroom on the other side of the house. With my last a canon also i had it hooked up to go to fax after a certain amount of rings and it worked fine. That machine got fried by lightening and i replaced it with this machine. If anyone knows what i am doing wrong i really need this fax hooked up all the time for my business.
