Hi fgs2, the manual will walk you through setting up the board including the CPU, memory, connecting case leds. (Everything).

This is really poor practice and an excellent way to destroy a motherboard.
You should always have the board connectors plugged in before turning on the power supply, otherwise you may be blowing ICs left and right. It's perfectly OK to plug the supply into the wall or turn on its power switch with the board connectors in place. Also, nearly all modern boards have a set of pins that go to the front panel 'power' switch which does not switch AC but sends a logic signal to the power supply to turn the rest of the voltages on. Those pins have a 5V potential on them that is typically grounded to tell the supply to turn on.
If you're lucky, you still have an undamaged motherboard.

Hello
You may have the reboot or restart wires backwards.Or on the wrong pins on the motherboard.

Here is a link to your mobo. Shows correct hook up.

Also be sure your memory sticks are in proper slots. If you have 2 they need to be seperated.
One in one channel the other in the second channel slot.Usually the slots are color coded.

I don't know how to plug in the wires for the ASUS a8n sli deluxe motherboard

Here is the manual for your motherboard (since describing a diagram probably isn't very useful...)
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket939/A8N-SLI/e2024_a8n-sli.pdf

You want to look at pages 27-35, they describe what you need to plug into the motherboard. Basically make sure you have connected:

1) 24-pin power cable (from power supply)
2) 4-pin power cable (for CPU from power supply)
3) Any case fans with 3/4 pin connectors.
3) hard drives (SATA or IDE)
4) USB front panel ports
5) Audio front panel ports
6) Case plugs (power LED, hdd LED, power switch, and reset switch).

Extra wire /fan 3pin hole 1wire where to plug in X 2 fans

If your cpu fan has a 4 pin connector & your mb has a 3 pin you can still use it. Just leave one pin exposed. The extra pin is for a speed control sensor that not all mb's support. The chassis fan has a different connector on the board marked "cha fan". This one is a 3 pin connector. Most of the asus boards have 1 of these. If you wish to run more than one you can either buy a "y" adapter that allows you to connect 2 fans to 1, you could use an extra 4 pin molex to power an extra fan but that would give you no control over the fan, or you could buy a fan controller and hook all your extra fans to it. Hope this helps & please take a moment to rate my solution fixya. Thanks.

First Time Build

Be careful to note whether you have the power switch connector plugged into the correct place. Sometimes with the two rows of multiple pin connectors it is difficult to tell if you have plugged it into the right place.

make sure you have the main 20pin power connector AND the 4 pin standby connector both plugged into the mb. The 4 pin receptacle on the board is sometimes hard to see because it is close to the CPU.

Unplug all the case connectors going to the mobo and try this. Take a small metal object like a small screwdriver and short out the two "power" pins on the mobo. The motherboard should power up. If it does, try plugging the case wires in again, being careful to plug them in across exactly the pins you used to turn it on by shorting it. If it still doesn't work, it is probably a faulty power switch on the case

Mother Board connection

Go to the site below. Its a manual for the 800/i65GV group. Go to page 67 and zoom in. You'll get a nice look where everything goes. Two rows of pins. Upper row and bottom row. Real close to each other. Do not place connectors up to down. Connect only left to right.
The reset connector has two pins. One will be white or black. These are - grounds. So connect it to the bottom row onto the most right two pins. Moving to your left. Skip one pin. Take the Power Switch a two pin connector. Remember Black & White is ground & ground goes to your right for both rows of Mb pins.

Go to IDE_LED next. Its the last two pins towards your most left of the bottom row of pins. Move to the upper row & the power LED. Same as the bottom row keping the grounds to your right. Lastly is the speaker. Its connector holds four pins but you only use two. One in each end.

Good luck & please vote....
