Center speaker hookup to a MARANTZ mdl 2238

I would like to connect a KLIPSCH sc-1 center speaker to my MARANTZ model 2238 rcvr/amp. The amp has L/R speaker outputs and the center speaker has only one input......is this possible. I would also be interested in using this combination with the A set of speakers, 8ohm INFINITY's, at the same time. Haven't tried yet, I dont want to overload the amp. Any ideas? Thank you.

Hi tliguyanadig

You can hook up the speaker "between" left and right outputs. Just connect the center speaker between left +ve and right +ve outputs respectively. It will give a spacial effect that some like and some dont:) Try it and see for yourself. Your marantz amp will handle the load OK. It is rated 38 watts into 8 ohms, but there is not alot of load presented by this sort of setup. Let me know what you think.

I have a Marantz turntable, a Marantz CD player, an Eltax tape player and a Marantz amplifier with two Cambridge speakers, how do I assemble them into a stack system please ? Thank you

All the sources, turntable, CD player and tape unit have an output. These should go in the input of the amplifier with the same name. Then only the Tape player, could have an input, for recording music or whatever. For that input, your amplifier should have an tape out. All these should be connected with cables with tulip plugs, like these.

Use the white for left on everything and red for right.
If one of the devices as a different connector, find a cable for audio, with on one end the tulip plugs and on the other end the fitting plug.
Then the output of the power amplifier it should say output or LS, can be connected with 2 wires going to the speakers.
For this the same counts, although it is difficult to see when you use electrical wires in one colour. What comes out red on he amp, should go on the same screw connector on the speaker. Just to avoid one speaker being out of phase. It will work, but could sound a little strange when the speakers are out of phase.
With the correct model names added, perhaps we could have given a more accurate answer.

Success.
Please don't test the system or switch on, with the volume button to the max. Don't switch anything on an amplifier when the volume is high, or the setting is high. A short increase of the volume, during switching can, and has very often destroy(ed) the speakers.

There are one or more transistors failed in the output circuit
I would have tech look at the amp and see what the power supply is doing without spkrs connected

''pop noise'' problem with a Marantz SC-80

Noise like you describe is more often caused by Electrolytic Capacitors. My guess is It's likely that one of them is leaking that DC into the circuit. Replace them on the tone control board one at a time (if you can't track it down) till you solve it.

Hi lodorico

Before we get too far, have you tried unplugging the unit from the wall and then firing it up about 20 mins later. This will do a hard reset on the units processor. If the first thing to when a power surge locks up your electronics.

Let me know how you got on.

1974 marantz model 2325 reciever and want to hook up a powered subwoofer ?

Hi jdwoomer

BEST WAY
Your amp has PreOut and Main In RCA connectors on the rear, you could make up an adaptor cable (or buy one) to split the post vol control signal at this point, and then use line level from here to drive the sub.

OR

Most powered subs have a speaker "high level" input, where the sub "sniffs" off signal from your speaker output. When setup like this the speakers and amp connect to the back of the Sub.

Either way, you can do it... Marantz were making nice gear back then... a collectable these days :) Any questions, I am here to help.

Marantz SR-630, Speaker Hookup

RB BR top row is A speaker connections (from the rear)
right +- -+ left and the row below is the B speaker connections in the same manner. Check that you have not plugged your audio source device into the Phono preamp as this will definatly produce "overdrive" Only a turntable should be plugged into the Phono input, and in saying that, there are some turntables about these days that have an preamp built in line > If yous has then it should be connected to anything other than the Phono input. Any more questions, hit me back here and i will try to help you.
