I just bought a JVC THD50 surround sound system. I want to hook up the system to my television and cable so when I watch cable I can hear the surround sound. I bought a digital optical audio cable and connected it from my television to my system. No sound seems to come out. I spoke with JVC and they said that I need to connect the system to the cable box and the system to the tv. I am all confused here and I dont know what needs to be connected to what. All I want is better sound when I watch cable. I have a Samsung 56" DLP television. I basically need to know what cables I need and where to connect them.

See below for the correct setup to get the best clarity sound possible.
From Set top box:
Note: You may need to turn off the speakers in the TV setup menu to acheive no sound from the TV. This will make for the ultimate experience.
From Set top box:
- Audio: optical or digital coax cable output --> jvc system Input
- Video: hdmi output--> jvc system input
- Video: HDMI output---> TV HDMI input
- only accepting HDMI input from JVC System.
Note: You may need to turn off the speakers in the TV setup menu to acheive no sound from the TV. This will make for the ultimate experience.
