It is more than likely a defective USB cable. I am on my third cable. They don't stand up to the abuse.

My Explorist 210 does not connect with any computer. What can I do.

Hello,
What is happening is your computers are not recognizing your unit. Means you have to update unit via the registered site for updates.
Hello,

first Perform a hardware reset to return the minor settings of the GPS to the original condition. Press the small "Reset" button on the side of the unit for several seconds until it powers off and powers back on.

If that doesn't solve the problem, then it means you will have to perform a firmware upgrade to put the GPS back in order.

Download and install the Content Manager software available for free from the Magellan support website. Connect your GPS to your computer with a USB cable, and the software will automatically search for firmware updates for your GPS.

Here is support to copy and paste in your browser for Magellan.

My Magellan Roadmate GPS has a "USB" error

click on start and then RIGHT click on computer then click on manage

click on device manager in the top left window and a list of devices will appear in the top right.

Plug your magellan roadmnate into the usb port and the top right window will refresh. See if you can see a device that says unkown device check also under usb controllers by clicking with the lefvt mouse button on the + sign to the left of the words usb controllers. If you see unknown device or anything with a yellow exclamation mark , right click on it and click uninstall. when you have uninstalled the problem hardware restart the pc and unplug the device BEFORE windows starts. When you are back up and running plug the Roadmate back into the computer and hopefully windows will install the device correctly

Laptop does not recognize magellan 860t when connected to usb port Magellan POI file editor issues message "no unit detected".

assuming your using a known good usb cable, you need to use windows XP sp2 or greater to install any magellan. if you are using that os or greater, try a different usb port.

if that fails, restart the computer and try again.

you can also try and reset the 860 using the reset on the top and see if that will help.

if none of those work, turn the reset button to the off position till the 860 goes off then plug in the usb cable and restart the 860.

if your not using windows XP sp2 or greater, hopefully you have a friend that does.

Computer fails to "see" the 210 when attached by USB

I talked with Magellan Support today (12/26/08). Their solution was to borrow a friends Windows XP system. I did and it worked. They DO NOT have a solution for Vista and claim that since Vista came afterwards they are not accountable for making it work on that O/S.

NMEA communication does not work ( but file transfer is OK)

Try rebooting windows, with gps off connect the cable to gps.

Go out side get a good gps signals on nav menu.

Set the gps communications menu to , nmea, 2.1

Plug the device into a good usb port.

If you look under modems, in control panel you should see a new modem called explorist xxx

If you look at the properties for that you can see its com port number.

I just tried this program http://www.visualgps.net/VisualGPS/

and it views nmea from the explorist, just set the com port to the one in the explorist modem .

Replacement keypad membrane

If you look on magellan website it states they no longer have or support replacement parts for older gps models.
You can find an explorist for parts on ebay.
I own a explorist 100, 400, 500. I believe the key pads are all the same. If you can not find one, I will sell you the pad from the explorist 100 for 30 dollars plus shipping.

No communication with computer

I would try downloading the USB driver from magellan (if they offer it).  You may also be able to get the driver from C-Map USA as the do the map software for magellan.

Cannot communicate with pc/ laptop. device is not recognised

You probably have the USB adapter connected upside-down on the unit.
