See if printer will work in another working computer. If it does the issue is with your computer hardware/software. If it also does not work then the issue is with the printer. And if so, it is not cost effective to repair given the price of printers these days.
It is possible that it is the USB cable or port. Try another cable if possible and another port on the PC.
When you plug it in does the computer recognize it? If not it could also be a hardware issue with the printer itself.
First check to make sure all of the cables are plugged in correctly (power cord, USB cable, etc).
Make sure the printer is turned on.
Turn printer off, reboot computer, turn printer back on and try again.
Are you able to print from any program? If you are unable to print only from one program then it may be an issue with that program. If you cannot print from anywhere, then there is probably an issue with the driver and I would reinstall the printer driver.
To do this, go to your Start Menu and select 'Devices and Printers' (if Win 7) or 'Printers and Faxes (if Win XP).
Find the printer in this window and right click on it and select 'remove device' or 'delete'. Be sure and unplug the printer before you do this. Once it has been removed, restart your computer and then plug the printer back in. This particular printer is a plug and play, therefor windows should recognize it and install the driver.
If reinstalling the driver does not resolve your issue, you may have a hardware failure.
Try removing all ports from your laptop, then reboot, and then create just one USB port. Also, go to your hardware devices and make sure your usb ports don't have any question marks or yellow warning symbols. Be sure first that the drivers for your USB ports are installed and working first. This sounds either a faulty USB cord, which does happen, or USB drivers issues in your laptop. The printer is probably not the problem here.
Check the printer status: 1 Click Start > Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Printers and Faxes. 2 From the Printers folder, double-click the Lexmark Z45 printer icon. 3 From the Printer menu, make sure: – Default Printer is selected. – Pause Printing is not selected. Check the printer port: 1 Click Start > Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Printers and Faxes. 2 Click the Ports tab. 3 From the list of ports, select the USB printer port. If the USB port is not listed, uninstall and then reinstall the printer software. 4 Click Apply. 5 Click OK. Make sure you have not installed multiple copies of the printer software: Windows XP: From the Start menu, click Control Panel Printers and Other Hardware > Printers and Faxes. In the Printers folder, make sure there is only one Lexmark Z45 printer icon. If you have installed multiple copies of the printer software, uninstall each copy. Then restart the computer and reinstall the printer software. If the printer port is incorrect or you have installed multiple copies of the printer software, uninstall and then reinstall the printer software: 1 From the Start menu, click Programs or All Programs Lexmark Z45 Uninstall. 2 Follow the instructions on your screen to uninstall the printer software. 3 Restart your computer. 4 Reinstall the printer software
Make sure your printer is set up correctly, check port it's set to be using, is it usb or lpt port. Try switching to a different port and see if it will help you.
If all fails, try deleting the printer and associated devices from device manager. Reconnect the printer, if a new hardware found message dons't come up, try a different USB port. I think, in order to successfuly install a PNP printer, it must first come up a message saying NEW HARDWARE FOUND. Then the rest will follow.
either port or driver problem. you may have to make adjustments in BIOS under peripheral devices. default is auto, change to assign manually and assign a port for com 1, com 2, printer.
right click MY COMPUTER, PROPERTIES, HARDWARE, DEVICE MANAGER; scroll down to com 1 and com 2 ports (above printer port) make sure no yellow explanation marks which indicate a port conflict. NO PRINTER WILL PRINT.
go to mfr website and download driver for your printer
click MY COMPUTER, PROPERTIES, HARDWARE, DEVICE MGR;
scroll down to printer port; right click; PROPERTIES, click on change driver; browse over to where you download drivers; keep going down the tree until you get to DRIVERS (select the folder with your operating system) click on it to OPEN into dialogue box (in change driver wizard which is open) and hit enter; THE WIZARD WILL INSTALL THE CORRECT DRIVER FOR YOUR PRINTER.
First check and make sure the printer hardware driver is installed and also the software. If the printer came with a disk, it should load both for you. Make sure you have ink in the cartridges. If you did not have a disk for the printer; then go on-line and download a driver and software for it from the internet. Then once both hardware driver and software are loaded you have to turn off computer and re-boot for it to take effect.
Another thing to check is when you get ready to print out your document and the print screen comes up. Make sure that the printer you are printing to is the correct one selected.
I see that you have power, but make sure the printer cable is plugged in the back of your computer. Then you need to check to make sure the printer port is the correct one for the printer. Usually it is LPT 1; or if USB, the cable would be plugged into a USB spot.
