Washer is leaving clothes too wet. Model is design 2000 commercial.

The design 200 is a direct drive beltless model with a coupler mounted between the motor and transmission. Over time that coupler can break causing the tub not to spin. If the coupler is ok then the transmission itself or the basket drive could have a problem. I recently worked on a design 2000 direct drive washer and did a home movie.

I have the Kenmore Model 110 92274100 . The drum does not spin and under the washer is powder from the belt. If you could explain the method for which to inspect/replace this I would greatly appreciate...

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (110.#######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive washers use a "Motor Coupler" between the motor and transmission.

It's used as a fail safe device and consists of three parts.

Two of the parts are the same, plastic units with three prongs that fit on one of the motor output shafts and the other on the transmission input shaft. Between them is a rubber piece with six holes.

The power from the motor is transmitted through the rubber piece to the transmission.

The other shaft on the motor directly drives the pump. This is likely why the machine drains.

If the motor coupler is broken, or worn, the motor may not be able to send full power to the transmission for agitating or spinning.

See the following for how to remove the cabinet, pump, motor and motor mounting plate to inspect and replace the motor coupler.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

If the coupler looks damaged, it's a relatively easy fix.

Pry the plastic pieces from the motor and transmission. Some people use a claw hammer but I've found that using a small (6 inch) pry bar works well.

Carefully fit the plastic pieces over the motor and transmission shafts and press them in place (Use a 1/2" of larger socket to put pressure equally around the pieces.

Put the rubber piece on the transmission plastic piece.

Replace the motor mounting plate.

Carefully line up the plastic prongs on the motor based plastic piece to the three un-used holes in the rubber piece. If they don't line up right, the coupler could be damaged.

Mount the motor, don't forget the two screws, put the pump back on the motor and use its' clips.

Put the cabinet back on, don't forget to plug the lid switch back in and re-mount the console.

I have a Kenmore 110 20692 000 washing machine. Last week it stopped working, and wouldn't spin. It would go to that part of the cycle, but made a kind of grinding noise. I asked on fixya what the...

Normally that motor turns one direction for wash, and another direction for spin. Suggest you undo the coupling again and run the motor firstly in a wash mode. If all is well, forward dial to spin mode then watch if motor changes direction. If it doesnt, very possibly the timer is faulty. If it does change to the spin direction then your gearbox has a problem. Once the reverse direction comes into play, it is supposed to activate a series of gears in the gearbox which will engage the large drum into a spin direction. If there is a loud grinding noise then possibly a gearbox issue. email address is terfou@imaginet.co.za

Two possibilities: since it will spin Neither of the suggestions are very expensive.

If the motor coupler is OK, the problem could be the clutch:

Sears has a replacement clutch band kit.

See the following for how to pull the pump, motor and transmission.

You DON'T HAVE TO PULL THE AGITATORS OR TUB.

Both the Motor coupler (available from most appliance parts stores) and the clutch band kit are relatively inexpensive.

Maytag performa. wtaer will not drain.machine will not wash or spin

The motor ia attached to the transmission. This is called a direct drive system. Between the motor and the transmission is a coupler. The coupler has sheared apart causing your problem. The coupler is very inexpensive although it will take a little muscle to replace

The part number is included with the instructions I provided. Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you need. If you do not wish to order parts on line, use the part numbers I provided and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. The coupler is commonly sold as part of their in-store inventory. The average cost of a motor coupling is about $15.

Whirlpool direct drive top loader will not spin

Hi, Is the humming noise coming from the timer area? Do you know if it agitates ok?
When you have it in spin cycle, Try lifting the lid and see if the hum stops.
The reason for these questions is that on this model, if it drains the water out but does not spin, it is either lid switch, coupler, or transmission.
If it's the coupler, it will not agitate either.
Please let me know so I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Washer drains properly after rinse cycle. The

It would help to know what washing machine we're dealing with.....but I'll just assume it's a standard Kenmore(whirlpool) direct drive top loader. If so, you most likely have a broken motor coupler, which is located between the motor and transmission, that's most likely, although you could have a very bad clutch or tranny too. Check the coupler first. Hope that helps.
