Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

1 Answer

Emachine t3958 Hi, I turned off my t3958 by pushing the power button and now it want come back on. I ohm the switch, not sure what it should be but it 0 out. I pulled out the mother board and inspected it, nothing looks or smells burnt. With the mother board out I plugged the power supply in to a outlet and one fan started running but only for a second then stopped. I then waited a few minutes plugged it back in and it did the same thing and if I unplug and then plug right back in again it does nothing. I have a multi meter but no way to check watts. I am thinking bad power supply but then I read on emachine when the power supply go bad so does the motherboard. There is a green light that comes on the mother board when I plug it in. I took picture of the wires as I unplugged the but a couple didn't do well so where can I find a wiring schematic. Thanks Mike

Same problem without the clicking sounds. Systems acts completely dead. Disconnected the hard drive and dvd drive. Both the i/o calbes and power supplies. Still no power up. Replaced power supply. Still the same. Just the single green led on the mother board. No fans from anywhere. No poer supply fans, coller fan or rear case fan.

I have the same problem. Switched on PC yesterday--nothing today.

When you test for drives, do you remove both cables or just the ones with the colored wires or just the flat grey one? Its been a few years since I've been inside a PC box, so I would appreciate it if someone would jog my memory. (Please Lord don't let it be my hard drive! :-( ) Thank you all for the help. I do appreciate it. Terry (female) in Alaska.

First check to see if a drive died. Unplug all the drive Floppy, hard and dvd or burns. I have come across many time that a drive will die and keep motherboard from booting. Being that you say you get a green light on the motherboard shows that the power suppy is providing some power. But for some reason the internal self test is faulting the power suppy. I have not come cross any bad power supplies killing a motherboard. But I have come across power supplies killing drives. The power switch is a normal open switch so the only time you be able test continuity on it is if you hold the switch in, or the closed position.

Green light on MB but will not power up at all nothing, even if I hold the button on. Emachine T3958 about 5 years old.

first thing I would try is a new power supply. if that doesn't do it for you, it's most likely your motherboard is bad.

Your power supply has gone out. This could have been caused by a surege, dust or bad power outlet.

You can purchase a replacement off eBay for under $25.00.

Check the power cable connections and make sure they are tight. If they are ok then i would say you have a bad power supply.

Emachines T3958 will not turn on

Check the fuse on the inside of it and see if it is not blown, if not blown change it any way it may not look like it is blown but it is hard to tell, and see if that work.

Here's the Support Link for your desktop. Look under User Guides, Hardware Reference. Also look on the motherboard for markings such as PW or PS and an indicator to where the wire goes.
