Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Indesit DE43UK dishwasher. Water only gets lukewarm, intermittently gives Fault code A03 - "thermistor short circuit". Indesit says no such part as thermistor listed for this model. Indesit will not put me through to an engineer to explain this. What now?

Thanks for the advice - but I neglected to mention that this is a "cold water" only machine. The instruction book recommends connecting it to the cold water supply. If connected to the hotwater supply, the instruction book says the machine lose more than 15% efficiency. It has been wotrking fine in the current installation for 3 years. It apparently heats the water itself, and does indeed have a 1.8 Kw tube type heater unit which measures fine. (28 ohms - exactly the same as the new one I have just bought)! I therefore strongly suspect that the machine does indeed have some sort of temperature sensor - quite possibly a thermistor - and that the fault code A03 - "thermistor short-circuit" could be accurate. Problem is that Indesit does not have any such part listed for my model machine! Are there other methods of temperature control used in dishwashers?

Thanks so much for the replies, your time is genuinely appreciated. Unfortunately my query is with regard to the specific make and model of my machine. It is European, and I am in London U.K., so I doubt whether you USA guy's will have come across it. Basically, the machine is telling me a thermistor fault, the symptoms seem to agree with that - but the manufacurer says there is no thermistor in my model!! There does seem to be a "one shot" over temp thermostat as protection, but the manufacturer refuses to tell me how the water temp. is obtained. I suspect that it may well be a simple timing procedure - X amount of water, therefore turn the heater on for Y time and the water should be at Z temperature. If this is the case, then perhaps the heating element goes high resistance when it starts heating up, or some such, and replacement will solve the problem. This does not solve the problem of the A03 fault code - thermistor short circuit. If they have indeed removed the thermistor and resorted to just a timed thing, where would the processor be getting the fault signal from? The other problem of course is that all the damned gubbins are in the bottom of the machine. To be able to take measurements while the thing is running would require me to put it up on some sort of satnd, so I could get at the underside with it in an upright position. Currently I just chuck it on it's back and mess with the gubbins that way. I don't expect a reply to this message - was just fo keep you updated. Many thanks for trying, all the best, Mitch Smith.

Just for everyones information - I have the problem solved. The thermistor for my dishwasher is hard-wired to the P.C.B., thats why it is not listed as a spare part - you have to buy the whole P.C.B. The thermistor itself is an NTC and is available at your local electronics shop for a few cents. In my case, a repair qoute for my dishwasher of over £300.00, has in effect been repaired by yours truly for 68 pence - and that includes the VAT!!!

INCREASE THE WATER TEMP AT THE HOUSE WATER HEATER SO YOU WILL HAVE 120 DEGREE WATER COMING INTO THE DISHWASHER. IF THE DISHWASHER IS NEXT TO THE SINK, PURGE THE HOT WATER LINE AT THE SINK UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY GET HOT WATER. THEN, START YOUR DISHWASHER.

I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR BRAND OF DISHWASHER, BUT IN GENERAL, ALL DISHWASHERS WITH A HEATER HAVE A THERMOSTAT OF SOME KIND TO REGULATE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE WATER. MOST AMERICAN MADE HAVE A HIGH LIMIT THERMOSTAT AND A THERMAL FUSE FOR SAFETY. IF I HAD A PROBLEM WITH WATER TEMP, I

WOULD SET THE DISHWASHER INTO A HEATED CYCLE,

CHECK THE HEATER CIRCUIT FOR OPERATION, AND SEE WHAT ITEM TURNS IT OFF. IF IT IS NOT UP TO TEMP, THAT ITEM WOULD BE DEFECTIVE.

Shortly after turning my indesit idl530 on a fault code appears

the problem you are getting is a f01 fault, this is water in the base part of the antiflood devise.to check this if you tip the appliance backwards and water comes from the back at the bottom this is the problem,if you do this till it stops and then leave for approx 24hrs to dry out any water that may have gone on to motor, then check by switching on to start a program,if appears to work ok but then goes back to the same fault(draining all the time and light flashing)you will have to remove base and check for leaks.

Suggest you check the electrical lines from the panel on out. Something is wrong with connections and it could be dangerous. If you're not familiar with electricity, get someone who is.

60cm Ultima DWF70 Free Standing

Hotpoint code A03 is a short circuit on the temperature thermistor.

This will need replacing, or there is a fault with the supply wires leading to it.

This should be replaced.

Do you need instructions or the number of an engineer?

If you do, please contact again, otherwise please rate as Fixya! if this has resolved your problem.

Thank you.
