it is ultra hard to fix broken LCD sectors unless you have a micro-shop intrusion tool. The fastest and most direct way to fix this is to purchase another LCD screen, which will cost about half if not more than the original purchase.
I have the same TV - I have a dark spot in the upper left hand corner. I have always thought this TV was dark. Be sure to get OME lamp. Cheaper ones are not worth it and can damage your TV more. dlplampsource,com--Just a note if this ever happens to you. TV would not come on in the AM-Had no picture, but had sound. It was not the lamp, but the safety switch. It's blue and at the bottom of the lamp housing. As soon as I flipped it and replaced the back cover, the TV came on.
If the picture is dark you will need to replace the projection lamp. Make sure before replacing that the TV has been turned off for at least an hour as the lamp does get very hot. Just do a google search with the lamp part number of 260962 to find a decent price for it. Be careful as some will be just the bulb and not the complete assembly. I suggest replacing the complete assembly as replacing just the bulb requires gloves and being very careful handling the bulb assembly. There is an access door on the lower right side of the back of the TV where you can get to the lamp. Make sure the TV is unplugged and once you put the new lamp in make sure the door is placed back in correctly otherwise the set will fail to light the lamp. Good luck and I hope this helps : )
firstly i dont know how the video is hooked up to tv - so if what i recommend doesnt work i would suggest giving more details
if video is hooked up to tv through component video (red, green, blue wires) try checking the green wire- if green wire is bad you will get no video on your screen you can try using one of the other wires to test if you dont have a new component video wire to try
secondly if that doesnt work try hooking the source up to a different input on tv and see if that works
next i would try another source for your video to be hooked up to tv ( maybe a dvd player or something like that)
if all of those tries dont work you might either have had the bulb for the back light go bad ( backlight bulb is usually a flourescent light bulb and it makes the screen get bright so you can see it) or the power supply for either the backlight bulb or the video high voltage go bad in which case i would recommend bringing in for service or just buying a new replacement (they are fairly cheap to buy new now so it might be a better alternative to a repair)
sometimes you can tell if it is backlight problem by making room very dark and look carefully at screen to see if you can see a picture on it - if you see a faint picture on screen then it is definately your backlight that went out
if you need more help write back with as many details you can give me about what wires you have connected things to tv with and what sources you have connected to tv also
the remote is not a problem you can get a new one from the rca web page and that will not cause a tv to act like that the screen may have a fracture in it our i have heard that the control boards have been faulty and can be bought on line for about 170 dollars and are easy to replace just a few screws and some ribbons to un hook oh and since it is a plasma the screen life is limited and if the people that gave it to you had kids and may have hit the screen the could have damged it and the only way you can fix it is by a repair store that can replace the solution in it you could also try the bulb in it may be one is burnt or something if this doesnt help i would take it t a repair shop
Try unplugging it for about 30-60 seconds, then plug it back in and before you turn it on, make sure there is a good video source going to the TV either from Satellite/Cable or a DVD player or something.
If this doesn't work, try unplugging it a bit longer and then plug it back in and try again. If it still does not work, you may have to take it in and get it serviced.
Usually when devices power themselves off like that, there's something wrong...
Yes, the lamp will gradually get darker as it nears it's end. The rolling lines sounds more like the set is on a local channel for the cable hook up. If your local area has a channel 3 or 4 live terestrial broadcast simply tune the cable box output to the other one, the same for the tv. If this is cable/local broadcast issue it will go away in Febuary when the NTSC broadcast ends.
I have the same model and had the same problem after replacing the lamp. Turns out if the cover plate is not put back on properly, tv will not power on and lamp ligth comes on. To solve the problem all I had to do is tighten the cover plate screw. Hope this helps.
