Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
Hey everyone, I have contacted a law firm that is acquiring info for a possible class action lawsuit. Especially for people who live in California, but everywhere else too: Please have all of your information DOCUMENTED! Write down when your PS3 stopped working and why, whether you have a receipt or not, when or if you contacted Sony, what was the outcome with Sony, if this defect has ever happened before, and what Sony is going to do to remedy this for you. Take all the info and email it to: firstname.lastname@example.org and write in the subject line "Sony Playstation 3". Additionally, if any of you are on another site or are blogging, repost this to spread the word. Good luck all!
I purchased my 80 gig system for $500 in March 2008, primarily for the use of the Blu-Ray DVD player. However, we have used it to play some video games as well, but usually prefer our XBox. Week of Feb 21, we had some minimal freezing issues in the God of War collection game. It stopped after we shut off the system for a few hours. Later that same week, while watching a DVD, the system froze again. Then it became very quickly when a game or DVD would freeze up after 5-10 minutes of play. We attempted a system restore and formatted the hard drive for a full system restore, neither of which worked. Upon calling Sony on March 10th, we were told it would cost $179 PLUS tax for them to look at the system, without repairing anything. We told the supervisor that the known issue was their firmware upgrade, but he laughed at us telling us we must not know what we're talking about. The system is useless unless the latest firmware is installed because all new games (God of War III, Heavy Rain, MW 2) are unplayable without installing the new firmware. Also, some Blu-Ray DVDs will not play, stating a firmware update is needed to play the movie. Sony has done something very fraudulent to make even more money out of consumers who have already spent anywhere from $300 and more on a system that is lasting LESS than one year. Something needs to be done before they rip off any more consumers.

I got my system last Christmas and two days after this Christmas it started freezing on me and not playing blue ray disks. i called Sony and they were trying to charge me 150 to fix. I don’t feel that something that costs 400.00 should break down after a year of minimal use. I still have the receipt but because the warranty expired they would not accept it.
