My screen is black. Can you help me?

The screen is black but the menu and functions will appear on it. Everything appears to be working even the flash. It just doesnt show a picture of what I am photographing.

Screen is black except for icons. No pictures but flasfh and telescopic lens works. I will try to repair when I find a small screwdriver.

Dark screen... at first you could barely see anything, but now you can't see anything at all. How do I fix it and how much will it cost? Am I better off getting a new camera?

I had a similar problem, but in my case teh screen was not entirely black but the image was very dar, like someone shut of teh lcd backlight, but the photos were coming ok (when checked on the pc). Showed it at repair sho, abd found out that one of the pcb supplying power to the backlight was not working and had to be replace. couldn't do much at home.

Lg w2343t monitor

try monitor on a different working desktop to see if it works, both on the external and internal video card ports. If screen menu buttons fails to respond, fault is either on menu buttons or you may have a burned out lcd screen, try a different monitor on your desktop pc to check its functionality. Monitor probably needs replacement.( It might not be burned out for you mentioned "no signal" error message appeared on screen, have the screen menu buttons checked)

Hi, I have a Canon T2i Rebel. When i put the camera in "M" (totally manual), the image doesnt appear in the LCD screen. Everything else works fine in the monitor, but it is as if the lens where...

That's great news, so let's write it up as a solution so that other people who search on here find the right information!

So it appears that the Canon T2i when in manual mode (M) remembers whatever settings you play with, and that these settings are remembered across power cycles; in other words, turning the camera off, or switching to auto before going back to manual does NOT put the settings back to a default.

This gives you the opportunity to set choices that make the screen view totally white or totally black, and unless you realise what you did, you can fear that your camera is broken in some way. At first, I thought this was a user interface flaw, but at least with the screen black or white, you know which way you need to go to get your picture back! The settings that affect brightness are Shutter Speed, Aperture Value, and ISO Rating. They are accessed in manual mode with the thumbwheel, alone, with Av, and after pressing the ISO button, respectively.

One more little bit of trivia: when in manual mode if you don't have live view on, when you half press the shutter, a little indicator comes up on the exposure scale, so that you can see how the settings you've chosen are going to come out.

P.S. I noticed that there was a forum especially for your camera, you might like to join it, it's called t2iforum dot com.

All of the icons from the screen disappeared!

try to reboot your computer into safe mode.

To use a Safe Boot option, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
  2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
  3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
Then click start
click run
type in msconfig
uncheck everything under the startup tab except your antivirus
and reboot

Start Menu & Taskbar do not appear

How are you accessing Control Panel without a Start Menu or Task Bar? You may want to check/adjust your screen resolution in Display Settings.

Black menu-like box randomly appears, covering the picture

This is a problem with closed-captioning. What you are seeing is a closed captioning box with no captioning in it. Usually this is being accidentally transmitted by the cable company "head end". Just make sure your closed captioning function is completely turned off. if you are seeing it randomly, it may well be coming from your cable company. Is it just on certain channels?

My screen is black. Can you help me?

Found a very useful recommendation on:

http://www.fixya.com/support/t136499-black_screen

This corrected the problem!!

The hardest part was getting the metal bracket for the SD card holder back in place. It needs to attach to the back cover first before snapping the back cover in place.

Black Box

Hi Krautner, We have a Toshiba and experienced the same problem this morning. It is very similar to your symptoms: big black box in centre-lower part of screen. It sometimes disappears momentarily when you select a feature such a "mute" for the same amount of time the screen displays that function. Once the "mute" signal disappears, the black box comes on again. I fixed the problem by turning off the close captioning function. Somehow, it had actually got switched on. It runs fine now. I suppose you have already found a fix since you posted back in May....but hopefully this helps you or someone else putting in a similar search for this fix. Cheers Geo
