Roper washer not draining

Roper direct drive washer was not draining and making a grinding noise. Found a broken transmission coupler and replaced it. Still does not drain but no grinding noise. New coupler has metal sleeve and hard to get on drive shaft, may not be fully seated.

It sounds like you have a motor coupling that is broken. There are videos on YouTube to show you how to repair this. Search for "motor coupling repair on direct drive".

Roper washing machine is not agitating. Makes a horrendous noise when supposed to be aggitating. No noise when filling with water.

Hello,

In addation to the agitation does it make the same noise in spin??
If yes it makes that same noise in spin the problem is going to be a broken motor coupler. I have written this tip about a broken motor coupler it will show ya how to take apart the washer and replace the coupler. http://www1.fixya.com/support/r10293994-whirlpool_made_washer_not_agatating

In spincycle doesnot move but makes clicking noise

The most common cause of the symptoms you describe is a broken motor coupling. Whirlpool manufactured top loaders (such as Roper) use a motor coupling in place of a drive belt and are known as "direct-drive" systems. No agitation, or spinning, associated with a grinding noise are the usual symptoms. The washer should still have the ability to drain, however.

The following link explains how to access the coupler and replace it, if necessary:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574231-replacing_a_motor_coupling

The part number is included with the instructions I provided. Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you need. If you do not wish to order parts on line, use the part numbers I provided and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. The coupler is usually sold as part of their in-store inventory. The average cost of a motor coupling is only about $15.

Another cause would be a failed gearcase (transmission). I would recommend checking the motor coupling first, however. If the coupler is still intact, please let me know. I can give you guidance on how to replace the gearcase, if necessary. If you have any questions, or if the symptoms I describe do not match the problem you are having, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Roper washer RAX4232PQO doesn't agitate or spin

It sounds like you may have a broken motor coupling. This is a common problem that usually occurs through normal wear and tear. Replacement couplers are more resilient and resist breaking much better. If the washer will fill, will not agitate or spin, but will still drain, these are the symptoms of a broken motor coupling. The accompanying noise of the motor engaging and a rattling/grinding sound is also a common symptom. This is a very simple and inexpensive repair. The following link explains step-by-step how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top

The part number is included in the link I provided. You can purchase a replacement on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: Roper is manufactured by Whirlpool and uses Whirlpool parts, so these instructions will apply.

My Roper washer Model# RAX4232JQ0 won't agitate or spin. Is it shaft driven or with a belt. I've tried everything. Even checked the switch for the lid.

The washer uses a direct drive system. What this means is that it uses a motor coupling in place of the drive belt. It sounds like to me that you have a broken motor coupling.

If the washer will fill and drain, but won't agitate or spin, you may have a broken motor coupling. The noise of the motor engaging, lack of agitation and ability to still drain are the usual symptoms. This is a common fail item with this model washer through normal wear and tear. Newer versions of the coupler are more resilient and resist breaking. The following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top

The motor coupling is located between the drive motor and the transmission and takes the place of a drive belt. They do wear out and can break. The replacement part number is included in the link I provided and is an improved upgraded coupling that is more resilient. It should last longer. If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

A replacement coupler can be purchased on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11. Just use the part number in the link and "Search by Part Number" for your search criteria.

If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this has been helpful to you. NOTE: Roper is manufactured by Whirpool, so the instructions I provided will apply to your washer.

ROPER RAX4232KQ1 Does not spin

You most likely have a broken coupler between the motor and transmission. A new coupler cost around $10 and is fairly simple to replace.
Remove the two screws that hold the console to the cabinet and flip the console back.
Remove the two clips that hold the cabinet to the rear panel of the washer and unplug the lid switch harness. The cabinet will tilt forward and slide off.
Remove the clips holding the water pump and move it to the side.
Unplug the wires from the motor and remove the clips holding it.
You will see the motor coupler.
Make sure you can turn the gearcase shaft with a pair of pliers so it is not locked up.
Post back and let me know what you find out.

Sounds like you have a motor coupler problem. Its located between the motor and the transmission. If you wanted to remove it yourself, its really not that hard a job. Remove the cabinet, pull the motor, and you will see the coupler. Let me know if you need further info. Jim
