Laptop built in speakers not working

Go to control panel, select system, then select hardware, then device manager. Are there any yellow exclamation marks showing on any of the devices on the list? If so, click on it and try to update driver. o you may go down list to sound, video game controllers and expand it,still looking for a "yellow Flag". You may even have to click roll back or uninstall driver . Then go to top of device manager and click on ACTION. Then down list to search for hardware changes. Your laptop should then bring up a balloon in bottom right hand corner telling you that new hardware has been found. If it doesn't install properly, then the YELLOW FLAG should show up in the hardware list device manager. click on it to update the driver. If that doen't work, back up all your files, go to Acer's page choosing your model and look for audio drivers. If all else fails, try one of the free driver updater programs . Hope this helps you out!

I don't know what kind of cam I have?

1. Connect your web cam
  • Attach all power cords (e.g. laptop and/or web cam).
  • Plug your USB cam directly into your computer (do not use any external USB hubs). Turn your cam on
  • As long as your web cam and computer hardware are working, Windows should detect it!
2. Open Device Manager
  • For Vista
=> Click Control Panel. If you have Control Panel Classic View, click Device Manager
=> Click Control Panel. If you have Control Panel Home View, click System and Maintenance->Device Manager
  • For XP
=> Click Control Panel->System, then Hardware tab, then Device Manager button
3. Find your web cam in Device Manager
  • Understanding Device Names
=> Windows provides user-friendly device names to accomodate us humans. As far as Windows is concerned, the device name is simply a comment!
=> It's those cryptic Device Identification strings that really identify a device
=> Device Manager displays whatever device name it happens to find in the device driver
...==> If Windows finds NO device driver, your web cam may be named “Unknown” or "Other" device
...==> If Windows finds the WRONG device driver you may see your web cam with the WRONG device name
  • How to find your web cam
=> While your web cam is connected, look through all of Device Manager for devices with a yellow icon (probably a yellow question mark)
=> Look if a device category Other Devices. Also, be certain to expand the USB category to check all devices listed under it
=> Your web cam will appear as a device with a yellow icon (probably a question mark)
=> Click on thumbnail to see the full sized image
How to verify the device you found is your web cam
=> Your web cam device will only appear in Device Manager when the web cam is powered on and connected
=> Disconnect your web cam. Verify the device you had found is no longer displayed in Device Manager
4. Find your web cam's Hardware Ids
  • In Device Manager, select your web cam device, rt click Properties. Click Details tab
  • Select Hardware Ids from the pull-down. You'll see a list of one or more Hardware Id strings

PCI Slot 1 (PCI bus 1, device 10, function 0)

Hi there, looks like your devices need updates to function correctly,

from devices manager,
select the device with the yellow question,
right click and click on update
even if you have no disk or internet
let the wizard find the drivers automatically
should be preinstalled with your OS XP
go thru your list and update any other question marks in yellow.

Should be able to update the network device on this system and then connect to the internet to finish anything else

heres the link for the Chaintech motherboards

Gatewaymx6421 help with fixing Mass Storage and SM Bus Controller

More often than not this is because there are multiple instances of the devices in the device manager and therefore until there are only one, they show up as yellow !. The best way to reinstall is to remove ANY mention of the device, then scan for new hardware and install your drivers from there.

No sound

Yes goto your control panel, open Sytem and see Device Manager. If there is any icon with yellow color in the list, it means you have missing driver. If you have any missing driver that might be for your audio controller. If so then you have to install the driver for the device. Install the driver and enjoy.

Note: If you don't have driver then Ask Me for that with your sound card manufacturer name and model no.

Thanks
Iqbal
