Ok i have had this problem.. (my computer would show the loading screen with all of the commands at the bottom. after this it would not boot up, but show a message on a black screen saying "operating system not found")
I completly tore down the laptop and making sure i had no issues with anything. so here is what i did that is simple and ended up solving the issues 3 times in a row.

1. take the cover off for the hard drive on the bottom of the laptop ( shows 3 very small disks beside each screw)

2. grab the clear strip that is on the hard drive and pull out the hard drive. ( blow out where it connects on the right side if dirty)

3. Reconnect the hard drive this will reset it.

4. Make sure to change back the processes to defaults when the computer starts back up.. If you fail to do so you will have to repeat the process each time you turn off the computer.

(This will only work if you messed up some settings while having the computer on, and not if you have faulty parts.)
for me i ctrl alt deleted and accidentally ended some important processes..

any other issues just email me at Bostelman@hotmail.com i will try to help you out. =D

Not a good message. This means that your system is unable to find the boot info on your hard disk to startup. This could indicate: 1) A failed hard disk 2) A corrupt boot record (can sometimes be reset by running fdisk /mbr 3) Drive setup in bios incorrectly an or error in the cmos setup of the drive.
I would suggest you find a friend who knows a little about computers to help you further with this issue...

If you need more info, feel free to contact me...

Hope this helps!

Hi DONNAk123

There are many possible reasons for this problem. The most common of which is corruption of your file system or the "master boot record". (Each having to do w/ the computer's hard disk drive.)

If you could, please, answer the following questions it would help a great deal in determining what the next step to take is.

(01) What is the make of your laptop?

(02) What is the model?

(03) What is the serial number or service tag number (Dell)?

(04) What operating system is installed on the laptop?

(05) Do you have the system restore CDs or operating system CD that came w/ the computer?

(06) Did any event precipitate this problem? (dropping the laptop, installing or uninstalling software or hardware drivers, installing operating system or any other updates, system "crash", etc.)

This and any other information you can provide can be very helpful.

Thank you,
BJ

THANKS FOR ALL THE INFORMATION BUT I FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM AND THE LAPTOP IS SHOT. IT IS A COMPAQ PRESARIO 1692 NOTE BOOK (WHICH IS OUTDATED) AND I AM THE ONE WHO CRASHED IT. :o( I WAS TRYING TO UPGRADE THE WINDOWS PROGRAM. IT WAS WINDOWS 2000 AND I TRIED TO MAKE IT WINDOWS XP ....A VERY STUPID MOVE. I HAVE ALREADY PURCHASE A NEW LAPTOP THAT IS VISTA READY AND I HAVE CREATED A RECOVERY DISK FOR IT ALREADY.

Not a good message. It means there is no boot record available to begin the startup process. Any of the following reasons could be the cause: 1) hard disk failure 2) boot sector corruption (can be reset by running fdisk /mbr) 3) drive setup incorrectly in bios
I would suggest that you have a friend who is knowledgable to take closer look at the problem...

Feel free to contact me if you need more information,

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: operating system not found on my laptop

Unfortunately the OS got corrupted and you need to re install the Operating system. There is no other way to fix the problem but use the recovery disc.
If you dont have a recovery disc you may want to contact the manufacturer of your laptop and order one.
Or if you can use a retail version of Operating system and once finished installing you may need to download the drivers of your laptop on the support site.
Hope this helps.

Your hard drive is missing from the system. Or, just does not recognize it. The obvious - Remove any USB devices like drives and any media from disc player. Its trying to load, but can't find bootable hard drive, CD, or USB... Remove the hard drive and reseat (reconnect). Check BIOS by pressing an F key during boot. Look on the screen for correct Function key. Might be F2 key. Verify BIOS recognizes the drive. It must be listed! There is no going forward if it's not. Check boot order and make internal hard drive first. Save and restart.

Boot sequence isn't enough. You have to turn OFF (disable) the boot from network. The error your seeing is result of the network boot rom not finding PXE server to boot from. Again, be sure to disable boot from network.

Error - The Hard Disk Was Not Found

Boot into the BIOS, I think you hit the Delete key on Dell's to get into the BIOS, but I'm not sure. You should see some type of message at boot that says "To enter setup press XXX" Where XXX is the Delete key or some other key.

Once you're in the BIOS setup see if your HDD is listed. You may also find the option to reset the BIOS to default. Generally speaking this will not hurt anything and may be worth a try.
