Do the following: (this checks for a software problem)when booting up press F8 and when you get to the menu, boot up into safe mode,
· then restore the pc back to a date before you had the problem, and/or remove any program or hardware you installed prior to you having the problem,
· run, up to date anti virus and anti spy ware scans
once you have done this and you still have a problem

  • put your windows system disc in the drive ,cancel it if it starts trying to install,
  • then go to start/run type in"cmd" then hit the enter key, when a dos box opens up
  • type in "sfc/scannow" without the"",
  • windows will check all its system files and drivers , and if it finds them corrupted or missing it will replace them.
good luck and let me know how you get on

My laptop screen is black, but I can tell the power is running. Cap lock lights will appear, is there something that disables the screen.

Normal power settings call for a power save mode. This will allow the hard drive to spin down, the monitor to go blank, but keeps the computer in STANDBY mode until there is an input from either the keyboard or the mouse.
Sometimes you have to hit the power button.
This setting can be modified in many ways.
right click on your desktop, select properties and select the screen saver tab, at the bottom is the power setting button. you can configure how you want your system to respond to your schedule.

Big fix requires attention

How to fix bigfix virus This problem can be solved manually by deleting all registry keys and files connected with this software, removing it from starup list and unregistering all corresponding DLLs. Additionally missing DLL's should be restored from distribution in case they are corrupted by bigfix. To fix this threat, you should:

1. Kill the following processes in task manager and delete the appropriate files from the programs folder:
1.Bigfix
2.BIGFIX.EXE
3.Alexa
4.Alexa.exe

Run a good antivirus program and remove what is found.

Mouse Sensitivity Issue

If your laptop is Vista, this page should have a download for a Vista touchpad driver:

http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/lenovo/drivers/2412/50.html

If it's an XP laptop, try this link:

http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/lenovo/drivers/2412/313.html

If one of them works, let me know which one and rate appropriately. If neither of them do, we'll try something else.

Thanks.

My comp is missing the startup files and i am missing bigfix programs how do i get the setup cds or dvds for the emachine i have now?

If system restore does not fix your computer, then you have hardware problems (overheating, faulty memory or CPU, or some other component). Start by looking at those possibilities.
