Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Ref: YAESU FT 102 TRANSCEIVER [1] My bias normally between 75 - 85 ma begins to creep up after a few minutes of operating, using push to talk. On ceasing speaking and listening, it is OK but on the next over it begins to creep up again. [2] Problems with the VOX. On speaking VOX comes in normally but will not drop out. Continues with a sort of "motor-boating" with fluctuating grid current until VOX GAIN is reduced to zero. Then starts all over again until I revert to PTT. Any advice will be appreciated bearing in mind I have artritic hands and am reluctant to delve into the innards with a soldering iron. John VK2GQK

Hi John,

You have thermal run away in the PA bottles. Change all three for new ones and you will cure the problem.

With regards to the VOX make sure the DELAY control is not set to high, located above the RF amp button.

Radio power`s on but no transmit or receive on ssb however it will transmit with full power on fm

If your receiver was operating previously but now the SSB option is not working, very likely the sideband detector has failed. I'm not directly familiar with your Yaesu unit but, in most Yaesu transceivers, the SSB chip and control circuit (including diodes) is identified in print on the main board.

How to turn beep off when transmitting

all the beep is for is so people can tell when you are done transmitting. There should be a push knob or button or just a plain old knob that has R.B. printed next to it . Turn it off.

I cant talk on any frequency over 148.000 anyone know why?!

This is an Amateur (Ham) Radio 2-meter Transceiver. It will only transmit on the 2-meter Amateur band (144-148 MHz) but has expanded receiver coverage from 136-174 MHz which includes Public Service and Commercial 2-Way Radio bands. Please note that an Amateur License is required to operate on the 2-meter Amateur Band.

Ft 2900r yaesu all i see on the screen is B0001 i can't see the frequency

Try powering the unit up while holding the Set/MHz button. I did that and it restored the display (and the rest of the radio's operation) back to normal.

The character codes are test-mode displays that correspond to frequencies (in MHz):

A0001-A0640 - 136.000-143.9875 in 12.5 KHz steps B0001-B0400 - 144.000-147.990 in 10.0 KHz steps
C0001-C2081 - 148.000-174.000 in 12.5 KHz steps

I haven't the foggiest idea why this isn't in the manual somewhere, or at least flipped back to normal by a two-key or three-key reset. 73, k2mct

Yaesu FT-726R repair shop?

Hi,

The cheapest way to repair your Yaesu, is to find a friend who is an amateur radio operator, these people know radios, and work on radios as a matter of course as their hobby, otherwise it's off to a radio workshop you go, and be prepared to part with some cash.

There are no freebies with quality branded radios, only cheapies, if you know the right people.

I hope this answers your query, and by the way, I'm in Australia, you never mentioned your location.

Cheers,
Peter
