Question about Furuno NavNet vx2 1920C GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Navnet 500 Hello, I purchased a boat with the Navnet 500 autopilot installed and I am having a little trouble learning its use. Today I tried to use its Nav mode by setting a waypoint on my Gamin 3012 and following the "Nav" mode instruction. It did not work. Tomorrow I am going to return to the boat and run a "Test" diagnostic as well as try to operate the unit in "Auto" mode> The truth is, that I don't even know if that Garmin unit is connected to the Navnet 500. My boat also has a Furumo chartplotter installed but it appears to have been used only as a radar, as there are no cards plugged into it. Is there some place or someone that is well versed on this unit that can look at my installation and help me with ensuring that it is working properly?

I have been doing some research and I haven’t been able to determine if the Garmin has a compatible output for your Furuno. I can not recommend any service center particularly since I have no idea where you are located, but any good marine shop should be able to help you.

The Furuno uses NMEA Inputs for the GPS, and like I said I haven’t been able to determine if that Garmin uses that as an output. I would suggest that you inspect your installation to determine if there are any cableing between the two units. If no wires connect the two that you can be sure that the units are not communicating.

As far as the chartplotter goes you can buy data cards for them, either on-line or from a good marine supply store.

Ais and 1920c Furuno chart plotter

n the system setup, under “UNITS” I set BEARING to “MAG” (magnetic). This will cause the unit to display course / bearing information in relation to the Magnetic North and match magnetic compass readings. It is not the same as True North! One has to be careful with this setting. There are a number of areas where the earth's magnetic field is locally disturbed, sometimes very significantly. Your GPS may not account for it. - again, under “UNITS” I set “METRIC”.

How connect the nav net vx2 to autopilot simrad.what output port and colour cable

Get someone from a marine electronics company to do this for you. If you are unsure of the basics of what you need and you attempt to do this while going in blind, you may ruin your nmea ports on your navnet and autopilot. While I understand that you are trying to save $$$ by doing this, there's more to it than just wiring. There are port setups and nmea sentences to enable etc.

Connect Furuno 1732 to st8002 autopilot

It will handle the voltage. as far as the wiring goes, you'll have to decide which port to use. the wire coloring is different. you'll have to send your nmea out data from port 3 white and shield ( Like you said) to the pilot and receive your heading data from the pilot on port 2.

I would like to purchase a full Furano Navnet 3D system with for my 42' sailboat now in production. It does not have hydraulic steering though. Is there a hydraulic linear drive compatible withe Furuno...

No, you will use the appropriate Simrad Drive unit such as an HLD350. It comes in long and short throw and split versions, and dual ram versions. Better to discuss on the phone probably. 847-746-0100 or email support@technicalamrine.com
